what's the deal with jumping rope? good, bad, meh? anyone jump rope as part of their workout?

Awesome exercise. I do it mostly when i don't have time for a run. A quick few minutes jumping rope is great.

I used to do quite a bit. Good for foot speed 'n stuff. Invest in a quality heavy rubber rope with good ball bearings in the handles.

Yea. I've had the same leather rope for like 15 years with bearings in the handles. It works good.

cool, I figure it's good for travel as well. should I do any sort of routine, or just jump in sets? I can't imagine I'll be able to do this for very long initially.

I jumprope for 4 minutes at a time with 30 seconds rest in between. I'm not saying it's the best way. It's just what I started doing years ago when I boxed and the way I still do it. I don't do anything fancy. No doubles or arm crosses or anything, just jump. I'd bet you can find routines on Google.
