I just have a general question about playing mid pair in short games. I play mainly full, but dabble in 6 handed games. I understand that sometimes you will bet middle pair in short games, but really have no idea when to play it aggressively, when to throw it away, etc. Can someone give me some general guidelines about what the f to do with middle pair?

Also, are there any good general treatises in this forum about learning the fundamentals of sh play?

Honestly, it all depends.

Just post some examples of hands you played in here or read some of the already posted hand histories.

How you play middle pair depends on:

how many in pot?
size of the pot?
was there a raise pre flop?
has everyone checked to you, are you last to act?
how your opponents have played previous hands, e.g over aggressive with overcards, or only betting out with top pair, etc etc
What is your middle pair? a 6? a J?
Whats your kicker, is it an overcard?
Do you have other draws?

Whether you raise or not will depend on some of the above, but you should be looking to raise 2nd pair if you feel you have the best hand and the raise will knock out other players on weak draws,

and more, most of which comes with experience through playing and reading books/forum.

Theres no general right or wrong answer.
