Today is my first day without a cigarette in a long time (not that long, but long enough). I'm using Nicorette mint flavored gum, it tastes pretty terrible. After chewing it enough, it tastes kind of like dip. I haven't gone crazy yet, I'm anticipating this happening sooner rather than later. Offer your support or insults please. Ok, thanks.

Don't worry, you'll have many more opportunities to say this during the next few months.

Good luck.

Yeah, I know it's going to be a long, hard road. Thanks for the support.

Consider the patch.

I've quit hundreds of times and it's never let me down.

GL sir. My grandpa stopped smoking at 60 after smoking for 40 years and while most of the damage can't be undone, it no doubt extended a few good years on his life.

I never started smoking thank god. But do a search on the net for the paper related to what happens to your body the second you have your last cigarette. Its been a long time since Ive seen it.
But its something like:
1 hour, your lungs open up
1 day, your pink tissue starts comming back
yada yada dont remember the specifics, I think it would be a good motivator to read everyday.

I usually never last more than 3 days tops, and mind you this is with a concerted effort, and a 30 dollar box of nicorette patches. I wish you the best of luck sir, however in your honor, I'm lighting up a grit right now /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well, if you really want to stay smoke-free, check this site out: http://whyquit.com/

Read all of the education links in the middle of the page to learn the facts about withdrawal.

Seriously...I smoked two packs a day for 6 years.
Cold turkey...no gum or patches.
Stay away from clubs/bars/casinos and friends who smoke for at least 3 months.
Drink lots of orange juice.
Take walks.
Don't eat anything greasy.
It takes approx. 3 to 4 months for you blood cells to cycle...and there are nicotine residues in your blood...
So perseverence....environment it the most important though...stress again...no clubs/bars/casinos for a few months...aight!
Peace!

Are you suggesting it takes 3-4 months for nicotine to clear your blood?

I quit three weeks ago.

Yaaaaaaaay!

I haven't killed anyone yet, but it's been close. Good luck.

WTG, just keep at it. Day 3 for me, but this is attempt 50 or something.

It does get easier each time. Don't give-up giving-up if you have a relapse, just keep plugging away with it.

The last year I have probably spent more time as a non-smoker than a smoker, and being a non-smoker is a damn site more pleasurable.

I smoked about 1.5 packs a day for almost 10 years. Whren I quit back in March cold turkey, I found it actually helped to get bombed every night the first week. You're going to feel like crap anyway, so you might as well be numb. Also, it seems to have seperated the alchohol<->smoke connection in my mind.

I find it impossible to enjoy a drink without smoking, it is so ingrained. This is my one big downfall, and the major reason why I keep failing /images/graemlins/frown.gif

Good job. I assume the fetus was the impetus?

Yeppur. Plus at $50 a carton, it got a bit ridikuloos.

Thanks for all the good will... Day 2 has not been too bad so far. This gum really tastes nasty though. I would consider going cold turkey, but I've tried that before and it definitely doesn't work for me.

I like the idea of staying away from bars/clubs and whatever... I guess I should consider myself lucky that I'm in NYC where there's no smoking allowed anywhere (something that used to really piss me off). That's kind of ironic.

Alright, thanks again ya'll.
