View Full Version : Poker Book Progression

I have read the MEGA thread on book progression but does anybody see a problem with this:

(I am giving this list to a new player)

GSIH
WLLH 3rd
TOP
ITH
SSHE

I was hesitant to suggest MLH because of it's weak-tight nature and I believe WLLH will take care of that. He does not plan on playing anything over 5/10 so I also didn't deem it necessary to suggest HPFAP.

GSIH
ITH
SSHE
TOP (only because he'll need to get this far before he can truly understand it)

WLLH 2nd was my first-ever book but I've never been a huge fan of it, nor the 3rd.

HEFAP might be useful even for online limits $2/4 and $3/6. SSH was written for LAG B&M games and you'll sometimes run into tough online tables which require stricter hand guidelines.

also for a more anecdotal approach to strategy, "Real Poker II" and "How Good Is Your Limit Hold Em" are good supplemental reads.

I'd add IYP as a 5th to that, I really thought it was excellent and completes the few subjects missing from the other books.

I think GSIH and WLLH 3rd are the best books for a complete noob.

Then let him play awhile.

Then SSHE.

Then play.

Then TOP and IYP.

After that, if he wants to focus on limit, there are lots of good books. If he wants to focus on tournaments, there are a different set of books, etc.
