View Full Version : Another 2+2er

08-16-2005, 01:45 PM
I guess this is a question for all the 2+2 vets:

So I was playing the other day and saw another 2+2er sit at my table. Stupidly, I started talking to him, asking about the forum. He didn't respond. My question to you is whether there is a common protocol when you see other 2+2ers at your table. I think I remember my friend telling me that you need to type "sup bro?", and then they will know.

Any truth behind this? Let me know. Thanks.

"Does the brown trout sleep in the closet" is the secret password. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

you're better off saying nothing.

'sup bro' or anything about a 'brown trout' will identify you as a 2p2er. Not sure why you would really want to do that, though, if you planned on playing at that table.

Point taken... I guess it would be better off to say nothing. Maybe I could've even taken advantage of that fact.

Surprisingly, he was quite unimpressive. Stats of 41/7 after 100 hands.

Just say SUP BRO? /images/graemlins/smile.gif

By the way, just because he's 41/7 doesn't mean he's bad.

Yes, it does.

Guess it depends on your definition of bad.

My PFR in full ring is a little under 7 :P

Damnit. I always forget people play crap ring. I mean full ring. 41 is way high for full ring, though. That's a lot of limping. 6m, I could see 41 vpip but then the pfr better be higher than 7.

08-16-2005, 02:52 PM
I never said he was bad. I said he was "unimpressive".

I think 41/7 is way too loose for full ring. I think I would fear a player with stats similar to 25/15 more than one with his numbers. 41/7 players are usually the ones who pay my bills...

08-16-2005, 02:54 PM
One more thing though... even at 6 max, I think that 41 vpip is pretty high.

I can understand the comraderie, but other than that, what is the benefit of letting an unknown opponent know that you know about them?

08-16-2005, 03:19 PM
True. Kinda pointless the more I think of it. I just thought it was a "Damon's-piranha-metaphor-in-Rounders" kind of a thing.

If he always plays like that, then yes he is bad.

Keep in mind that some people (like me, for instance) don't reply to 2+2 related chat at all. Even if you toss the 'sup bro' or 'brown trout', I'll just totally ignore it.

Obviously, this must have been me.

Now that just seems decidedly anti-social. We ARE playing 25 or 50 here. It's not like it's 25/50.

I play full ring, becasue I'm still learning the basics.

Perhaps. Old habits die hard. It's the whole glass tapping thing, ya know.

Besides, I'm naturally a grumpy dude, anyway. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Doesn't really tap the glass to say 'sup bro' back. If someone starts chatting more, feel free to ignore with my blessings. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

You're probably right. I'll try to start being nicer. /images/graemlins/cool.gif

When I say "sup bro" I'm really saying, "Fine Sir, I'd like to wish you a benevolent Hello and I hope to engage in a pleasant discourse with you during this here Battle of Wits amongst gentlemen." /images/graemlins/grin.gif

On a similar subject... someone I believe to be a 2+2er was on my table the other night. Also at the table was an uber-fish. The suspected 2+2er berated this guy to hell. Called him all kinds of names, criticised his play, suggested that the fish stop betting because "everyone is trying to lay a trap" for him, told him to buy pokertracker and generally acted like a right tosser...

...so, is there a generally accepted codeword for "stfu up you dickhead, I'd quite like this guy to stick around long enough to pay my rent"

Generally a few words of how the fish is actually playing well is a nice measure, too. And usually works at getting the [censored] to berate you instead of the fish which is greatly preferable. Another tactic which has been used to good effect is to post the 2p2ers SN on here and call him an [censored] in public. See MHFL board for examples.

I do this actually. If someone berates a complete moron for sucking out on them, I always say "nice play, I would have played it the same." This has a couple advantages: first, others at the table actually think you would have played it the same, so it is basically advertising; and two, it pisses the berater off and puts him on tilt, especially agaisnt you--and it also keeps the donk feeling good and wanting to make more huge suckouts.
