so a guest comes into my office this morning (i work in a casino/hotel), and he asks me why we have Kool & the Gang playing our property.

he says, "because they're really aren't THAT many african-american people who gamble in here anyway"...

he goes on to say, "no i'm not racist...if you had that woman who was married to rick fox come in here...i'd probably go and see her."


i literally sat there in a daze...i couldn't wait for this guy to get the hell out of my office. makes me amazed at how lucky i am to be surrounded by mostly decent, intelligent people...cause there are a ton out there who fall far below the bar.

i don't know if it was racist as much as just plain ignorant...either way...this guy was a tool and i had to purge the five minutes i was sitting there tortured with him out of my system.

Last year I took a roadtrip cross country and our first stop was in Indiana. I assume you are under 30, if you are older than that this statement is pretty irrelevant since we're not talking about what America was like decades ago.

If you asked the average jewish person when the last time they had a problem that they would not have encountered if they weren't jewish, aside from Christmas I don't think most could give you an answer. I'm sure 99% of black people could give you an answer very quickly.

im white, when i used to walk to my friends house in harlem i nearly got beat up a ton of times, often it was just a case of me straight sprinting to a big intersection where there would be cops, but thats totally different than discrimination.

As racism goes, this was pretty mild. The guy just sounds like an ignorant tool, more than anything. The fact that he took the time out to come chat with you about K&G performing at your casino is bizarre.

When I worked in retail, I had two muslim guys who did deliveries for the store. The phone calls I'd get from customers about the delivery guys would make me sick to my stomach. Most of them were along the lines of "Why don't you hire whites" and "If I knew you'd be sending over n*gg*rs, I'd have shopped elsewhere". And this was *before* 9/11...I can just imagine what these people think of muslims now.

I don't know what happened in Gaza today (though I am sure I will read about it later), but I don't see what your point is. I am assuming that a bunch of Israelis got killed today (most likely civilians). The only obvious solution is for the Israeli driven american tanks and planes to go kill some palestinian civilians. BTW, I am Jewish (by blood, I don't practice Judaism), but I get just as sad hearing about Palestinian civilians getting killed as I do Israeli civilians getting killed. But, I am sure our resident King Zionist Gamblor would beg to differ. Man, I hate being a self-depracating jew. Which I have been called numerous times for not "supporting" the state of israel. Whatever the fck that means.

Anyways, to end this ramble. As far as "marginilization" goes in the States, I think Jews are much less marginalized than Middle Eastern people are. The point of my skinhead story was not to make it appear as though Jews were this super marginalized group of people, but to show that anti-semitism is still around in the south.

p.s. On a side note, in 2 out of 5 of my ass kickings, I think the only reason I survived was because a few African Americans saved my ass. I didn't know them, nor there motives. And at the time I really didn't care.
