I can't beleive Snoop and some others made this list, but I spose it keeps a balance of some sort.

Not going on lyrics, but the ability to spit just dope multi-syllabic lines in succession, I'd have to go with Nas (despite the fact illmatic was the only really incredible album), Eminem(Anything Pre Marshall Mathers LP is VERY IMPORTANT here, not necessarily Infinite EP however,), maybe Jay Z although I dont know hes too predictable sometimes. Monch should be on this list as well despite the fact he hasnt done crap really. I VOTE FOR AESOP ROCK. Not really, but yea he can really rip ish now and then, if youre into that kind of thing.

I don't really know how anyone could vote Biggie. Rakim was a foundation-builder for rap with thought. I think that anyone who knows much about rap would have to vote Snoop Dog. The way that he matches up syllables in each rhyming sentence is a skill that no other has perfected. The flow to his music has been phenomenal and skillful. Biggie's rhymes have too many breaks and uneven syllable structure....

You're inferring that no one here knows what they're talking about, yet claim that KRS-One is the worst rapper in history. Interesting.

Indiana
08-16-2005, 12:10 PM
Yes sir I am. KRS-1 has "somewhat" meaningful lyrics and had his place in the history of rap. But honestly souldaddy, honestly, do you think he was a great rapper? He mostly talked his way though songs....If you think he was great, I will post some of his lyrics and give examples.

Indy

Soul Daddy
08-16-2005, 12:15 PM
I never said he was great, in all honesty, I never really got into him. I really don't know that much about rap after 1993, so I try to stay out of the debate for the most part. But he was far from the worst rapper in history. Statements like that are just ridiculous. If you don't like him, that's fine, but keep your insane hyperbole out of it. Go listen to some Poison.

Indiana

Think about this song for a minute:

[verse one]
Let's begin
what where why or when
will all be explained
(*starts off pretty cool)

why destruction is a game
see I'm not insane
in fact I'm kind of rational
when I be asking
yo who is more dramatical
(*ok KRS, now your lines are VERY choppy and superficial, but let's continue)

this one that one
the white one or the black one
pick the punk
and I'll jump up to attack one
(*he wrote this on the bus while on his way to the studio...simple lyrics and frankly simple)

KRS One is just the guy to lead a crew
right up to your face and dis you
everyone saw me on the last album cover
holding a pistol
something far from a lover
beside my brother
S-C-O-T
I just laughed
'cause no one can defeat me
this selection number two
is "My Philosophy"
number one
was "Poetry"
you know it's me
it's my philosophy
many artists got to learn
I'm not flammable
I don't burn
(You're not flammable huh? You don't burn? LOL...again, notice the threeliners...very poor rap quality, not to mention the cheap sounding background music that accompanies this song)

so please stop burnin'
and learn to earn respect
'cause that's just what
KR collects
see, what do you expect
when you rhyme like a soft punk
you walk down the street and get jumped
you got to have style
and learn to be original
and everybody's gonna wanna dis you
like me
(*I will stop here, do you see why? The rest is below if you can stomach it)

we stood up for the South Bronx
and every sucka mc
had a response
you think we care?
I know that they are on the tip
my posse from the Bronx is thick
and we're real live
we walk correctly
a lot of suckas would like to forget me
but they can't
'cause like a champ
I have got a record
of knocking out the frauds in a second
on the mic
I believe that you should get loose
I haven't come to tell you I have juice
I just produce, create, innovate on a higher level
I'll be back
but for now just seckle
[verse two]
I'll play the nine
and you play the target
you all know my name so I guess I'll just start it
or should I say, "Start this"
I am an artist
of new concepts at their hardest
yo, cause I'm a teacher
and Scot is a scholar
it ain't about money
cause we all make dollars
that's why
I walk with my head up
when I hear wack rhymes
I get fed up
rap is like a set-up
a lot of games
a lot of suckas with colorful names
I'm so-and-so
I'm this
I'm that
huh, but they all just wick-wick-wack
I'm not white or red or black
I'm brown
from the Boogie Down
Productions
of course
our music be thumpin'
others say their bad
but they're buggin
let me tell you somethin' now
about hip hop
about D-Nice, Melodie,
and Scot La Rock
I'll get a pen, a pencil, a marker
mainly what I write is for the average New Yorker
some mc's be talkin' and talkin'
tryin' to show how black people are walkin
but I don't walk this way to portray
or reinforce
stereotypes of today
like all my brothas
eatin' chicken and watermelon
talk broken english and drug sellin'
see I'm tellin'
and teaching real facts
now when some act in rap
is kind of wack
and it lacks
creativity and intelligence
but they don't care
'cause the company is sellin' it
it's my philosophy
on the industry
don't bother dissin' me
or even wish that we'd
soften, dilute,
or commercialize all our lyrics
'cause it's about time
one of y'all hear it
first-hand
from the intelligent
brown man
a vegetarian
no goat or ham
or chicken or turkey or hamburger
'cause to me that's suicide
self-murder
let us get back to what we call hip hop
and what it meant to DJ Scot La Rock...
[verse three]
How many mc's must get dissed
before somebody says, "Don't f*** with Kris!"
this is just one style
out of many
like a piggy bank
this is one penny
my brother's name is Kenny
Kenny Parker
my other brother I.C.U.
is much darker
Boogie Down Productions
is made up of teachers
the lecture is conducted
from the mic into the speaker
who gets weaker?
the king or the teacher
it's not about a salary
it's all about reality
teachers teach and do the world good
kings just rule
and most are never understood
if you were to rule
over a certain industry
**** right now
would be in misery
no one would get along
nor sing a song
'cause everyone'd be singing for the king
am I wrong?!
so yo, what's up
it's me again
Scot La Rock,
KRS, BDP again
many people had the nerve to think we would end the trend
we're criminal minded
and only tend
funky, funky, funky, funky, funky hit records
no more than four minutes
and some seconds
the competition checks and checks
and keeps checkin'
they get the album
take it home
and start sweatin'
why? well it's simple
to them it's kind of vital
to take KRS-One's title
to them I'm like an idol
some type of entity
in everybody's rhyme
they wanna mention me?
or rather mention us
me or Scot La Rock
but they can get bust
get robbed, get dropped
I don't play around
nor do I f*** around
and you can tell by the bodies that are left around
when some clown jumps up to get beat down
broken down to his very last compound
see how it sound?
a little unrational
a lot of mc's like to use the word
DRAMATICAL!
Fresh for '88
you suckas...

Indiana
08-16-2005, 12:21 PM
It takes an open mind and heart to absorb and appreciate both BDP and Poisson. Think about it, how many people do you know like that?

i have re-read your post, and i don't see how i'm being "a stupid ass." do i have to keep running down pre-90 stuff that wasn't "friendly" or "pop [censored]"? your statement was such an incorrect over-generalization that it's laughable. i really don't understand why you can't just admit that you don't know as much about pre-90 hip hop as you do about post-90 hip hop, and move on. why make incorrect generalizations to look like you know everything? are you that insecure?

I find it funny that every thread related to rap music turns into an angry argument between several people. A clear sign that rap music breeds anger and animosity!

whoah there shooter.

i dont think top 10's mean [censored] for one thing.

and i did'nt know he was your best buddy since grade school and that knocking his inconsistent abilities, which i think would be a key factor (dont you? or do you buy whatever is on today's top 10?) in this, would get you're panties all in a bunch.

and for the record, his best release of all time is still illmatic, which is phenomenal.

What the hell are you talking about? By top 10 I meant one of the 10 best albums ever, not something that was on TRL or 106 & Park. And I was referring to Illmatic as the best of all time. /images/graemlins/confused.gif /images/graemlins/confused.gif /images/graemlins/confused.gif /images/graemlins/confused.gif

i have this issue w/ aesop rock's flow. also his last 2 releases have not been his best show.

the dude is smart, and a very creative writer, but still has to do some time to get classic credit.

i will still buy his releases though.

Really? I thought his last record was his best yet. I'm not a huge A Rock fan but I'm surprised you thought he fell off on his last album.

Very under-rated Ice T. Half the rappers on the list owe their career to him.

lots of threads on all sorts of topics turn into angry flame wars all the time. you cant blame it on rap music.

also, this thread and discussion should be titled "2nd greatest MC," because Jay-Z is the greatest, and theres no one close.

they are fetching a pretty penny on ebay i hear. i've been hoping to randomly stumble across one in some CD store in nowheresville sometime. if i do, i'll make sure to pick up multiple copies if they have 'em.

$100 on Amazon and around $60-70 on eBay.

[/ QUOTE ]

Seriosuly? I guess I need to sell the copies I have before they tank the price with a reissue.

is there anyone else out there who thinks jay-z blew his load after reasonable doubt era? or perhaps vol 1 but really, reasonable doubt.

back on mop's album, first family, he rips it on 4 alarm blaze.

and ever since that time, he's been a [censored] ing hoover.

also:
big pun? i thought this was in there for comedic value.

method man? 1 amazing album (solo, im not counting one of the all time greatest tracks on 36 chambers) hardly gives him this kinda cred.

i never got into tupac myself either so i have nothing to say on that.

edit for extra bull [censored] ing
