Are watches some kind of new symbol of "cool"? Is there a new watch fad going on?

Stylish and relatively cheap for a sharp looking diamond watch

no, i just lost my old skagen a bit ago, and my wrist feels naked without it.
it would be nice to check the time without flipping out the cellphone.

not bad. not much on the gold though. a bit too blingish for me.

ive been oogling the rolex perpetual air king line for a while... eventually i'll get it. very nice, simple design. the ones im looking at are a silver band with blue face, it looks awesome to me. rolex's site is an applet, go to rolex.com (http://www.rolex.com) then collections then oyster perpetual

I just bought this one (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5023577371&ssPageName= MERC_VIC_RSCC_Pr4_PcY_BIN_Stores). This is the lowest price I could find for that model.

I don't think they're huge among watch collectors, but I'm a fan of a lot of Tiffany's styles.
Edit: one of my favorites (http://www.tiffany.com/shopping/item.aspx?CategoryID=141&category=watches&c_id=WEB 1&c_it=71V9&start_id=1&)

I like this collection (http://www.seikousa.com/Gallery.aspx?collectionId=7&genderId=1) myself. I have a quartz one, all stainless with a white face. Simple, not overstated and very lightweight and thin. If your into the kinetic thing, its available, but you'll add depth to the body, which I chose to avoid.

nice, but not the look i am searching for.
going for more of a simple/stylish/elegant look. but nothing too gaudy.
somthing that looks nice, but can be comfortably worn for most occasions and every day.

a final note: i am not a huge guy, and thus do not have that big of wrists. basically i can connect my thumb and middle finger around my left wrists.
so it cannot be too huge or bulky.

This one (http://cgi.ebay.com/CASIO-Wave-Ceptor-Atomic-Watch-Solar-Power-WVA510DA-1AV_W0QQitemZ5022995108QQcategoryZ31387QQrdZ1QQcmd ZViewItem) looks a little nicer. The only difference is that it's not titanium.
This one (http://cgi.ebay.com/Casio-Wave-Ceptor-Atomic-Watch-WVA105HDA-2AV-Mens_W0QQitemZ5023346234QQcategoryZ31387QQrdZ1QQcm dZViewItem) looks nice, and it is less expensive. Only 50m water resistance though (can't swim with it).
Scroll down to the big pics.
I require that the watch be able to show the day of the week, month, and date at the same time. I also like the fact that these are always accurate, and even correct for daylight savings time automatically.

much more concerned about aesthetics as opposed to functionality.
the movado elira suggested is pretty sexy.

It's not uncommon for me to be a few years behind on something like this.
A couple years ago I bought a Casio. It says right on the watch face that it's water resistant and can be illuminated.
I cut the wrist band off with some scissors and keep the watch in my pocket.

Breitling or Omega.

Uhh... are you serious? There are MANY MANY good brands of watches out there besides those two. And when I think simple elegance I don't exactly think about freaking Breitling...

Give us this day our weekly watch thread.
If movement is important to you make sure to do a little research to find out who still makes their own movements and who buys them.
I'm rather fond of Jaeger-LeCoultre. If I ever feel like wearing a watch again I'll get one.

seiko kinetics are pretty good...nobody has mentioned those, but I like them a lot. Nobody has mentioned tags either, surprised at that.

A cell phone is a poor substitute for a watch.

I like Fossil. Too easy to lose an expensive one.
I styarted wearing a watch a couple months ago. I figured out I really like leather bands instead of the metal link kind - they pinch the hairs on my arm.
I got this one:

price range is pretty wide. if i see something nice for 75 bucks it will do. if it is for 800, then that will probably have to work as well.

I've got the same problem, only it's thumb and index finger for me. A Rolex would look stupid on me.
Try Baume & Mercier. I've got a version of the Riviera line, something like this (http://www.worldofwatches.com/detail.asp?Sn=421501520&dept_id=100&pf_id=14520&pa geno=3&special=&watchsp=), only an '80s model. Also comes in gold and steel only versions. Thin, elegant, stylish. Also expensive.
Now here's to afford one (or any good watch). Certified pre-owned from Tourneau (http://www.tourneau.com/Tourneau/Main.aspx). They've got stores all over the country, or you can call them and tell them what you're looking for. I got mine (retail $2500 new) for $800-$900 a few years ago. Definitely worth looking into.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Tag Heuer.
Mine (http://www.tagheuer.com/watches/detail.lbl?watch=WL5119.BA0700&search=s:5;F:20;T:0 ;C:s;)
Automatic Movement, so it just needs a few shakes to get going.
Sweeping second hand.
Looks cool.
