Hello all. I have a question concerning playing at a higher level. I've played 1105 hours of 1-2 or 2-4 Hold'em in my home game. I am currently ahead by 13,972, which is approximately 12.50 per hour. The average big bet has been 2.93, to give you all an idea of the mix between the two games. I have read several key books, run thousands of simulations on Turbo Texas Hold'em, and I'm constantly thinking about my game. The question is, what's next. I feel like I've hit a plateau in my learning, and would like to proceed with the quest for Hold'em knowledge. Any suggestions for a next step??

How about playing in a tougher game? If you are beating that game for more than 4 BBs per hour, it's hard to believe there are many quality opponents.

Have you played in the casino at all, or online?

Unfortunately I have not kept separate records for the home game and the casino games I have played except to tell you that approximately 200 of those hours were played in a 2-4 game at the Taj.
Also, because I make 4 big bets an hour is exactly why I haven't moved up. The question here would be - Is there more to learn by simply PLAYING in a larger limit game? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Start to play in some 5/10 games in additional to your usual 1/2 and 2/4 games. Your win rate won't be as high right away, but eventually it should surpass your current win rate. Or, if you enjoy killing the small games, keep doing that. But you sound like you are bored, so you should try playing a little higher.

Also, you could take up Stud or Omaha to make yourself a more well-rounded player.

What?? In what casino game do you think he can make more than $12 an hour?? 10-20 maybe. A tougher game?? Why would he seek out tougher opponents?? Forget it, just schedule the home game for every damn night of the week!

Play online. Start at the lowest limit at whatever site you play, it's sure to be tougher than the Taj 2/4 game. Tourgher games will get you learning. Also, try the 3/6 game at the Taj, it is very beatable, but a little tougher than the 2/4 game.

Read HEFAP and TOP, if you have read them, read them again and then read them again.

Did you read his post? He didn't ask where he can make more money, he asked where he can learn more and improve his game. That's why I suggested playing in a tougher game. I've learned a lot from playing with and watching the good players, he should be able to do the same.

Also, making $12+ in a 5/10 kill game like we have here in CT shouldn't be too much of a stretch.
