every week or so, i start up my laptop and something weird happens. it slows to a crawl, and when i start up the task manager i see that "cpu usage" is 100%. (or 99). then in the list of tasks, explorer has a 95 or something crazy high in the cpu column. im running a spyware check now, though i did last night, but is there anything else i can do? usually a restart fixes it, but its a little annoying.

Does this happen by itself? There's a known bug causing this usage when clicking on certain .AVI files.

This has happened to my moms computer on occasion.

Seems to only happen when she visits pogo.com and its as if it gets stuck on an infinite loop or something on one of the ad pages.

After you close the page everything goes back to normal.

Does it seem to happen when you visit a particular site? Or does it happen when you just leave the computer on?

Also see what happens when you close all the IE apps and possibly end the explorer.exe process (only do this if you're on XP though).

I've been trying to figure out if im triggering it, but i dont think i am. it mostly happens on startup. if i end the explorer task the task bar disappears and i cant open anything.
