My wife and I just moved to Vermont. We are looking for a place to play live poker. We heard that the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino in upstate New York has a cardroom.

Has anyone played there?

If so, how is it? What about the rake? Free cocktails? Any cocktails?

Thanks.

I was there last month when visiting friends in Plattsburgh and Vergennes. it's about a 90 minute drive to Hogansburg after you get off from the ferry.

10 tables, though only 2 were open at the time I was there (I believe late sunday night, July 4th weekend). one table was 3/6 limit with a half kill, meaning that if the pot was bigger than 1BB for every person dealt in the hand, they would go to 5/10 with the last winner posting up front, then go back to 3/6 the next hand. there was also a $1 jackpot drop which was basically paid for directly from the small blind. so figure $4 rake + $1 jackpot taken out of every hand. soft local players who seemed to know each other already.

there was also $3/6 NL going on, but I didn't find out the rake/time schedule. and I'm sure they deal other limits when more people are there. staff was 9/10 on the friendly scale, 6/10 on the competent scale.

free drinks are served, just tip the usual. girls were actually kind of cute there...

good, cheap blackjack games as well. 6 decks, stand on 17, only $10 minimum. you can play either Canadian dollars or USD (house chips are issued in slightly different shades). so-so penetration but probably countable if you tried. video poker, on the other hand, was shite.

Thanks so much for the info. Could be worse. Think we will give it a try.

I played there for about 5 hours on the Saturday night before Memorial Day. Even then, there were only 4 tables open. 1 table was a fairly large No Limit game. Might of been $10/20 blinds but I can't remember. The other 3 tables were $3/6 with half kill and a must move.

Staff was nice and ran the games OK. People didn't smoke in the poker area however I am unsure if they are allowed to. Chips are nice and new. All in all it's OK but the game selection isn't any good due to lack of players.

If it was a 10/20 NL game, I'll eat my hat...

Likely a 2/5 NL game (max buy-in is $1000) but even that does run consistantly, since they started spreading the 1/3NL game ($500 max)... both are very "good" games!!
