All I can say is I'm about to fall asleep before I type this. I'm flooring at the Grand for a couple days to help out. (and the x-tra money helps) I get to work at 8:30 in the morning and come into 1 live game and no players in sight. I'm spoiled by Horseshoe. As the morning wears on I'm told at around 9:30 that I can't open any new tables because the tournament will be sold out, requiring all 78 (I think) tables. Of course this goes over well with the players that are coming in looking for live games. I quietly suggest checking out the Horseshoe to a couple players. /images/graemlins/cool.gif As of 11:30 they've sold about 100 alternates so things are looking good. The final number was around 880. Just about the time the first tables start to break, and the list for all games was around 50 players, the P.A. system in the poker room took a dump. Now I have to get all the live games going without a way to page names. Not fun. It was fixed by around 5 or 6pm so that was a plus. SOOOOO... At 9pm, 12 1/2 hours into my shift, I figure I should go home and get some sleep. My wife has called me somewhere around 10 times wondering when to cook dinner. I'm walking out and Johnny Grooms, the tournament director, pulls me over to help with the tax forms for people getting knocked out of the tournament. When I left at 11:30 there we're 28 players left and 3 we're local poker dealers. Who says dealers can't play poker! So.. now its 1:30 in the morning and I need to get some sleep so I can make it back to the Grand at 8:30am. On a side note when I came in my wife was up waiting on me to tell me we're expecting our second baby. What a day.

Todd,
Nice to hear somany people showed up in Tunica. How long were the rounds for the $300 first event? What was top pay out? I may enter the second $300 NL event later this week, once I get down there in a couple days.
Congrats on the news of your second child! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

1. Congrats on your expected addition - like previous poster stated, better you than I. We love our two. . but are very done!
2. If anyone is interested in the schedule or blind structure, you can find those on the WSOP homepage here. wsop (http://www.worldseriesofpoker.com/GrandCasinoTunica.asp)
3. I guess it would be smart to advance register for these events. I live in Kentucky and was planning on hitting a couple of events at the stop at Caesars Indiana.
4. Steamboatin - It seems you are more of a cash game player, but are you planning on getting in any of these tourneys?
See ya

congrats on the kid.

great news on the turn-out.
Not too shabby at all considering the short notice and it's jsut a month after everyone and their brother (so it seemed) was in Vegas for the various WSOP events.

I've seen the local TV commercian for the event numerous times and was hoping it might help draw some of the Memphis local, home-game and bar-league players too.

(the TV spot is the same as that WSOP-circuit spot where some guy named Mike is just standing there at the camera not blinking and the 'voice' says "okay..you're really angry...lets see it Mike!!" "pull it back a bit Mike. pull it back."
But in the middle they specifically mention 'Play in the WSOP-circuit coming to the Grand Casino in Tunica beginning August 10th."

Also another color ad..1/3 page I think...in the Memphis Flyer (weekly paper). Raymer, Devilfis, Harmon and Doyle are pictured along with a complete list of every single event through the 2 weeks.
I'm guessing the same ad is in the Memphis Commercial-Appeal newspaper as well (the main paper) as well as perhaps some of the northern Mississippi area newspapers.

Maybe but my touramnet game needs a lot of work, so i would only play the lower buyin games. I have been playing a few touraments online with an eye to playing in a WSOP qualifier or circuit event. If I play, I'll be in the cheap seats.

The $330 events start with 1500 chips, 25-25 blinds, and 50 minute levels.

I'll reserve the chipr-jr and mschipr screen names just incase. For those of you that don't know the chipr screen name is because I collect casino chips. My 3 year old has one heck of a collection already although she's never seen them. I have most either hidden away in the safe or in a safety deposit box. I have close to 20k different chips, $1-$5 denominations, no cash value chips, and roulettes from just about anywhere you can imagine. It took me about 5 years to find every chip up to $5 from every casino in Mississippi. This includes obsolete chips as the casino changes racks, error chips, and complete roulette sets. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I plan on playing in one of the smaller events when the WSOP comes to Caesars IN. Just wondering how many people to expect playing in this event, and a guess at the payout structure. I know this is dependant on the number of players but just wanted a rough idea. Thanks for any help.

The website says 50 minutes, but it really is 40 minutes. They gave us 50 minutes for level 1 in the circuit event #1 $300+40, then they changed it to 40 minutes. Their SNG satellites were great on wednesday because they were in a rush to open the satellites so they accidentally gave 800 chips to every table/every type of satellite. But they fixed it yesterday ($45's start with 300 chips, $65's start with 500 chips and $120's start with 800 chips)

Anyway, I busted around 700, 99 lost to QQ and I was shortstacked

I played in the New Orleans and Tunica circuit $300 event and both were about 870 people, paying out top 72 (I think), 1st place was $66,000+

Anyone know when registration opens for the $340 NL event on the 16th? And what's the best way to avoid a huge line (i.e. when do I want to start waiting in line for registration to open up.) I keep trying to call the poker room but no one has been answering for 2 days now. Hopefully, Chipr or someone else who's playing in the event can shed some light. Thanks.

Registration for ALL events started this past wednesday. There are no huge lines anymore because of this. You also don't have to buy entry chips either anymore, you can jsut buy in with cash.

SO if I show up on the 15th or morning of the 16th for the $340 I'll be placed on the alternate list? I'm assuming the event is maxed out already as was the first day $340 event.

the first day is usually bigger I've noticed.

this is on a Monday right?
I suspect your chances of making it in are still decent (I haven't been down there yet and certainly don't KNOW one way or another...but it's a reasonable guess I think that you could still get in....i might head down there as well)

The $340 event is Tuesday. I won't be in town until Monday afternoon. I'm hoping I can still sign up for it. I don't know if I like being an alternate, especially if I'm #100 on the list. If the $340 event doesn't fall through for me, I'll definetly be playing in the normal $100 tourney at the Gold Strike and Sam's Town Wed, Thurs, and Sat.

my point is that the first day usually draws a bigger crowd then a Tuesday afternoon event.

WSOP in Vegas day 1 drew a ton of players compared with the other prelim events I believe.

Same thing happened at the New Orleans circuit event a few months ago I think. Everyone and their brother played in the first event and the line was out the door. but it wasn't AS bad for some of the other events.

Anyway, if I had to guess I would think you would be okay registering on Monday night. Probably not a problem at all.

Also - I would not be surprised if they set up other tourneys at the Grand. And you can always play those single-table satellites (the entry-chips that you win are easily sell-able...and the single-table satellites are quite soft).

as you noted, there will be LOTS of poker fun to be had by all at the various venues if for some reason your preference doesn't work out.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully it does die down as you say it has in the past so I can get a seat. How much are the sing table tourneys? Are these SNG just for the main event or for all?

MicroBob

they will have them at varying buy-in's.

someone already mentioned $120 down to $45 or something.

You just win 'entry-chips' which might be $500 in value or something.
You can use them for any event. It is very easy to sell them to other players for cash.
I played a ton of these at the WSOP in Vegas and it was quite profitable.
