He seems like a giant fish to me.

what an utterly ignorant statement. limit has just as many complex situations as NL. I imagine there are groups of people who believe one is more complex than the other, but Antonio's statement is sad at best.

deepdowntruth

Not his table, but that's his username. It's funny when he sits down at the lower limits how many '1.4s' and 'Rocks and Rings' etc. he gets. He'll never live those down. And that 'Poker Wave' he does on TV...ugh. Does he think he's Randy Moss or something?

Both games require a great deal of subtlety and attention to win, but in pretty different regards. If I can psychologize for a bit (having no actual knowledge of him or psychology) somehow I've always thought he was overcompensating for poor self-esteem by showing up other players, acting like a dolt, insulting their physical appearance, etc.. In limit hold'em, there is really no way to make a decent player look like a complete idiot; the "big bluff" isn't possible, elaborate traps just don't happen. In No-Limit though, you can "make moves" and win with absolutely nothing, making the other players embarrassed and feeling foolish. I bet he gets off on it and gives a jolt to his pseudo-self-esteem at the expense of others. And hey, his endeavor before poker was what? Magic. Fooling people, showing them up, and getting the best of them. Can't be a coincidence.

I think he's just an insecure little boy lashing out at the world, and something as mathematical and subtle as limit hold'em is lost on him, i.e., "retarted".

Anyway, the above is complete BS and I have no idea what I'm talking about, but it is convincing to me.

:-P

He won a WPT (1.9m), a WSOP bracelet ($185k), as well as three other six-figure cashes. If you don't like him, fine. But clearly he has had a lot of success in tournaments.

(He's currently in the top 10 for the Cardplayer Player of the year award).

Am I a douche for not liking Halo 2 or Madden 2045? Am I dumb because I prefer LHE to Omaha 8/b? Everyone is entitled to their own preferences. This thread is dumb.

Wow,

I just lost a great deal of respect for Antonio. He's ignorant.

Personally, I play limit. I love it. I know (some of) the complexities of the game.

Accordingly, I play Limit instead of No Limit.

However, I also realize some of the (different) complexities of NL. I would never say that I think NL is "boring" or "stupid". It, too, is a great game.

NL and Limit are two different beasts. That is all.

Why does anyone care what Antonio thinks about limit holdem? Many of you sound insulted because you play limit. I'm sure he just personally finds limit holdem to be less interesting and less fun than NL. MANY PEOPLE FEEL THIS WAY. I play both, so I can appreciate them both. But there was a time when I too thought limit was boring.

As far as saying it was "retarted", whatever, just a passing comment. I don't take it to mean he thinks that people who play limit holdem are "retarted" or retarded.

Seriously, not a big deal.

Read "Poker Essays" for Mason's view on this topic. He claims that limit requires more skill, because it is very difficult to protect your hand. In NL you can just bet the pot and should be able to shut down the draws with it.
