OK, I know even less about computers than I do about poker, but bear with me. I just got a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop with the WUXGA screen. When I try to play a DVD on it, it is extremely herky-jerky. Presumably, the computer can't process all the information on the disc fast enough.

The computer has 512MB DDR2 SDRAM 1 Dimm (whatever that is)

an Intel® Pentium® M Processor 725 (1.60 GHz/2MB Cache/400MHz FSB) (whatever that is)

a 64MB DDR ATI's MOBILITY™ RADEON X300 PCI Express x16 Graphics video card (whatever that is)

and the DVD drive is a 24X CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive (whatever that is).

Is this an issue that can be fixed by adjusting one of the above?

I think you have this (http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/storage/IDE-DMA.mspx) problem.
