Villain (28/10/3) has $300, I cover. He is quite an aggressive player, particularly in situations like these.

I get K /images/graemlins/diamond.gif Q /images/graemlins/heart.gif in the SB.

Folded to me and I raise to $12. He calls.

Flop is J /images/graemlins/spade.gif 9 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif 9 /images/graemlins/heart.gif

I check, planning to check-call or check-raise and represent a 9 later in the hand. He checks too.

Turn is T /images/graemlins/spade.gif

I bet $20. He raises to $40. I push.

What are your reasons for pushing rather than just making a decent sized raise and value betting the river?

What are you pushing for ?

He only has a 3/4 sized stack so I want to make him make a decision now if he has a 9 or a flush draw.

Also, a push looks weaker so he may be actually more likely to call it with a 9.

At this point, a pot sized raise will either commit us or close to commit us anyways, I figured. This may or may not be good reasoning.

He's very aggro. Why try to get him to make a huge call? I'd make a smallish re-raise and hope he pushes.

Is this a good idea considering that there are a LOT of cards that can come down and make my life miserable?

beware of the flop check behind, then the turn raise. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if you got shown jacks or 9's full here.

Yes it is. As you said, you're committed once you re-raise anyways. So if he calls, just push it in on the river no matter what. I guess unless it's a nine. Then you can check/fold maybe. Or push then, too, whatever.

Are you getting away from this hand in this situation if you read him for a flopped full house?

I think if you read him as a flopped full house, you should a fold a straight. And a flush. But not a straight flush.

Great insight.
