Here's a little setup:

I was actually the 'villian' here, I pushed on the end, and he called (this should be obvious since I know his cards).

However, after this hand I started thinking about what I would have done being faced with an all in bet on the river.

I'd call instantly since only case 8, 99+ beats you where there's no real indication of either here. If you indeed had the case 8 or a higher PP, then I'd smack myself and open another SNG. I'd push river here too 100% of the time.

Agreed. The likelihood that he is beat is very small, and giving up the split is going to be passing up several hundred chips on the river.
