View Full Version : Online poker vs. B&M

08-10-2005, 07:45 AM
I stopped playing poker online a few months back because of some incredibly bad beats. Now, I've just started playing at B&M and have had some good sessions (made about 500 last time around). I find it much easier to do well due to tells, intimidation, etc. Should I stick with playing just at B&M or start playing online again? What are your experiences with both?

Online poker is rigged.

Nevermind the lower rake, no need to tip, more hands per hour, bonuses, possibility to multi-table, etc.

Seriously, it's personal preference, man. Personally, I can get in five times the amount of hands per hour online than in a B&M. And I can fart anytime I want without offending nine strangers.

B&M is way better!

you get in more hands online, so...

1. Online is better if you have a constant win rate
2. B&M is better if you tilt easily

you can see people in B&M, so...

1. It's better if you tend to bluff too much online
2. It's worse if you have lots of anxiety

It's really a personal preference. If you're a tight player who only bets when you have it... I'd say B&M is the way to go. If not, Online.

I'm TAG when I play B&M. So are you saying I should change it up a lil in order to do well online?

Play online the majority of hte time you play, but if you're in the mood to play some live games, head to the casino every once in awhile. Why play in the casino all the time when the rake is higher and you can't play nearly as many hands?

Bingo. Poker is poker. In my experience, people who think they can win in a B&M, but can't online are generally not very good poker players, but hit a short-term heater in a casino.

Damn but it has been the opposite for me this year. The casino games I have played are just so fishy I have made more $$ playing live than online.

Online my table selection sucks btw.

B&M games are softer than online games - a typical B&M 2/4 game is like a typical 0.50/1 game on Party -

thats why you are doing better for the most part, its not a high degree of tells etc - its just horrible play-

Party .5/1 is much tougher /images/graemlins/grin.gif than low limit live games, 5/10 live might be about the same

Correct.

The Commerce 2/4 game I usually frequent on weekends is routinely 8 to the flop, even against raises and reraises. Party .50/1 isn't like this. If it was, I'd be playing there already. 2/4 live is closer to .05/.10 on Stars.

Your statement is thoughtless, incorrect, and just plain dumb.

I had a couple paragraphs typed up as a reply for this thread, but decided that it is better if multitabling, bonus whoring, rake-back scheming 2+2ers continue playing exclusively online.

Thanks for all the elbow room at the B&Ms. Keep up the good work.

But right on the money, nonetheless. It is precisely because of the multi-tabling, rakeback, lower rake, bonuses, etc. that I play online to make money and play in a casino (especially here in Colorado with the $5 bet maximum) when I want to have fun interacting with the fishies.

B&M is better in terms of experiencing every aspect of the game. You lose the finer nuances of poker online - the human factors that make it so fascinating. But let's face it - online poker is far more convenient. Besides, you don't have to get dressed to play online. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have been neglecting the Bike for far too long. I'll check it out asap. However, I'd like more info on why it's better than Commerce.
