View Full Version : I got a Palm Tungsten-e2 for $100.... what can I do with it? (OT)

I refuse to tread into OOT, so I posted this here.

My friend got two Palm Tungsten e2's for free from his work and I gave him $100 for one with a 512 MB SD card.

My question is... wtf can I do with this thing? To me it just seems like a glorified address book and calendar but I'm sure someone here can come up with some good uses.

Apparently, they are decently nice. $250 or so retail.

store E books, car upkeep logs, hold'em calc, palm office, email, use it as MP3 player, games, databases for collectables (so you know what books/CD's/etc you have and can carry it WITH you). Check out http://www.freewarepalm.com/docs/docs.shtml for FREE software. Google Palm software. Loads of it out there.

Music and games sound perfect, though how much can it hold? Probably not more than 100 songs and not even that if I've loaded it with crap.

How does internet work with this. It has bluetooth and I'm assuming I get ass-rammed for $29.95 a month or something ludicrous like that.

The fact you linked me to free software implies I'm going to find some way to spend hundreds more on stupid software I'll never need than I did on the Palm itself.

This isn't gonna be pretty.

I have a couple of programs on my palm, poker log, and poker tracker (no relation to pat's software I believe) that track my live play. I've seen some other stuff on line like chip counter that keeps track of average stack sizes during a live tournament so you know where you are at.

I keep hoping that someone will write something that lets you quickly put in live hand history so that you can track those like you do online. I may have to try and hack it myself when I have time.

It really is great as an address book and organizer because you can synch it up with your computer, you never lose your information. All my info has survived numerous hard drive crashes and Palm hard boots because it is on both places, unlike a regular address book which takes all the data with it.

Those sound useful, I'll check them out.

Also, I email/contact with Mozilla based products, I think I'm SOL as far as synching that goes without switching to Outlook huh?

I'm not sure how the palm stuff plays with Mozilla; I use outlook on the PC and Entourage on the Mac (I still use OS 9 a lot).

If nothing else, install the Palm desktop - their own app - to at least have something to synch to. Even if it won't keep your contacts in synch with Mozilla, at least all your databases and other programs will be backed up.

Oh, you just don't know what this can do. I almost feel bad doing this. Okay, I don't really feel bad. Here's a 512meg expansion card, you can load as much crap on it as you feel like carrying the little cards. 512M expansion cards (http://www.pcconnection.com/ProductDetail?Sku=5422528) Nice and spendy at $84 each.
