I am on the market for a new cell phone. I am, and will remain, a Verizon customer. I do not have specific business needs (e-mail, web) nor do I need the best camera, etc.

I am willing to spend quite a chunk of change for the right phone and don't mind the cool extras, but more important are the simple stuff like ease of use, size (i dont mind it being big if it is sidekickish, but otherwise...), durability (i drunk drop my phone every once in a while), reception, etc.

I am thinking of looking at a Razor at the moment, other than that I am completely open to suggestions.

I just got mine yesterday, quite happy with it so far. Suspect the screens will get finger marky and need lots of cleaning though.

I just got the LG VX4650 (I think that's the right number). It's the one with the ginormous speakerphone thing on it. It's a good little phone and it's everything that I want/need in a cell-phone. That means it's small, it gets good reception, and has a decent phonebook. I can't have a camera on my phone, or I won't be able to take it to a lot of the places that I go for work. This limited my options quite a bit, but I don't really want that crap anyway. My wife wanted the RAZR, but they didn't have it for Verizon as of last month, so she couldn't get it. We ended up getting a deal on my phone and the camera version of my phone (VX6100) for her as a pair. I think the deal was actually for two of the camera phones, but I got them to sub mine in there.

We both like our phones so far, through about a month or two of use. They're simple phones that get the job done and will do the basic extras - text, photos, games, etc.

The phone is irrelevant - just stick with Verizon, and DON'T GET CINGULAR! They own me for a few more months, then I'm OUT.

I've never heard anything bad about Cingular.

I have. Don't they have one of the highest rates of dropped calls? I believe Verizon is rated the best in this category.

I had them and their service sucked. Plus, every person I talk to has Verizon so I don't really have to worry about minutes, ever.

Unfortunately in the part of MA I work they are the only company that gets good service (Great Barrington / Berkshire County). I've heard a lot of bad things about their company. I'm thinking of getting one of their pay-as-you-go phones. Can anyone tell me how good the reception is on these compared to a higher-end plan phone? Do plan callers get priority on their networks? Any insight?

They may not be. I didn't even look in to it. I just assumed I would be able to get a razor on verizon. i guess i am wrong.

You can't get a Razr on Verizon since Verizon uses a CDMA network and the Razr is a GSM phone.

Except, you could buy a "CDMA Razr" on eBay for about $1100 or so and then activate it on verizon. That might work. They are from Korea I think.

I have been researching phones also and thought the LG VX8100 was going to kick ass, but they disabled many of the cool features of the phone. Still undecided.

Push to talk? I believe the LG VX4700 is the same thing, but with Push To Talk.
