View Full Version : Did I have any other move here?

08-09-2005, 09:28 AM
I figure I needed to take a chance here to build up my stack with 6 ppl left. Plus I'd still have a few chips left if I lost. Was calling the right move? Or should I have folded? I read the raiser for a decent hand, but not a great one so he's trying to steal blinds, so I called hoping for a coinflip or better. I was getting 590:965.

Firstly thinking of it as "having to take a chance" is wrong - you still have a very healthy stack here - > 1k and not even at 6bb yet. However the pot odds, and the fact he is probably pushing a wide range here, make this much closer to call. I don't know, not ICM'd it, but I think it's probably marginally +EV, whether you take it or not is up to you really.

I fold this most of the time.

I like to look at who is on my left when making these decisions. If I can steal regularly from them I avoid these confrontations and continue to steal. If the table has been aggressive or limping alot and stealing is more difficult I am more willing to take a possible coin flip.

This gotta be a call, 6 ppl left, last to act vs a wide range pusher... you have a definite edge over his range, and here the pot is spiced with 375 extra chips. On top of that, you don't have to commit more than half your stack!

How would you know his range is wide? He is pushing into five players. Furthermore, losing half your stack is horrible here. You will eat SB with a stack of just 615 if you lose, meaning that you suddenly have to push crap no matter if you want or not and with 540 chips with a 150 BB your FE is all gone.

I fold this. What pair would other people need to call this? I would call TT+.
