My Hand

So after reading some hand histories posted by other players, I decided to dip my toe into the waters of PLO.

I logged on to FTP and saw a .05/.10 blind PLO game going, with decent pot sizes and many players seeing every flop.

I had only been in the game about five, ten minutes or so when this hand came up.

I was in the cutoff with: Ts Th As 5h

Three limpers, me, and both blinds see the flop. There is .60 in the pot.

The flop came: 6d 9s Tc Giving me top set.

I was pondering my move when the big blind bet the pot. An EP limper raised to the maximum ($2.40).

I put both players on a flopped straight, as they were pretty much playing everything. While deciding if I should go for the FH, I was trying to think through many scenarios (believe it or not, this is the first time this has happened to me in PLO or PLO8 [when no low is possible]).

I took too long to think about my decision, because I timed out, lol.

Both players had me covered, but just by a smidge (.40 in one case).

Later I went to Two Dimes to see how close it was, and here is what I found:

As you can see, the case ten was dead.

The board never paired, in any case, and I would have lost my stack.

But with both players all-in, and my EV being .37, it was pretty darned close!

How would more experienced players have played this hand?

If I was getting 2:1 on my money all in on the flop I would call in a shot.

Based on the action you describe I would be raising as much as possible. I I would figure myself for better than 1/3 equity. Against good players there is often fold equity here, since they may have no redraws to their straights. Also its possible you are against weaker sets or just straight draws that may fold.

How much did you have behind? If the stacks were really deep, and I didn't fear another reraise, I would call. Then if the turn doesn't pair the board or bring a spade I would be ready to fold to any decent sized bet.

If a spade comes I still wouldn't call a big bet, but what I would be hoping for (other than the board pairing) is 7,8, J, Q or K of spades, cards which just might slow the other guys down a little, letting me get good odds on the turn bet.

Ummm...if one of them folds, you have ruined your coup. You dont have and dont want fold equity here.

Umm, maybe as a math guy I can't count (only prove things), but if a spade comes and there is still money left after a call, you probably have at least 15 (maybe 17 outs). You are folding?

Unless I can expect good action on the river I wouldn't call if my chances are 2,6:1 and the pot only 2:1. This could happen if there is a big bet and one of others fold (again depending on how deep the players are). If the other two go into a raising war I would get 2:1 on all new bets, most certainly be put all-in, and not have any river action.
