View Full Version : Niagra Fallsview Casino

Long time lurker, first time poster... Anyways, I'm going to be in western New York next week and, because I'm only 20, can't even play in the nearest Indian casino (Seneca Niagara Casino) so I have to visit the land of maple leaves and denim to get my live poker fix. Has anybody been to the Niagra Fallsview Casino? What's their poker room like? What games are spread there? There website is pretty worthless and I can't call because I'm at work.

Thanks,
Matt

Very nice but very small and very new.

They are the "high rollers" room on our side of the Falls -- 6/12 is the lowest limit game, 5/5 max 500 is the only NL game, at least last I checked.

The other Niagara facility is kind of dumpy (extensive renovations to the casino ongoing) but very friendly and fishy. 2/4, 3/6, 5/10 limit are the standards, as is 1/2 100 max NL, which is absolutely hilarious to play and watch.

Lots of college kids from Guelph/Waterloo/Brock and dealers from Seneca in Buffalo tend to make up the game.

I sat for a few hours about a month ago, and saw HU all-in preflop showdowns like 22 v. TQ (soooooooooted), 44 v. 8A, 33 v. JA. If you have the roll and want to patiently nut-peddle and set mine, this game is a gem.

Is the other casino the Casino Niagra? The only info they have on poker is a side banner that randomly pops up ( banner (http://discoverniagara.com/advertpro/banners/2005/04/pok/130x175.png) ) and that is the extent of any sign of a poker room.

Did you notice if they offer any single or small multi-table tournaments? I'll have quite a bit of time and would really like to try out a smaller buyin tournament ($30-50) as I can repeatedly crush home game tournaments.

Yes, Casino Niagara. Their room is about 12 tables. Fallsview has 8 or 10 I think.

To my knowledge, neither offers tournaments, but if you're on this site, you'll have little trouble crushing any of the low-limit games.

I play semi-regularly at Casino Niagara, Seneca and Fallsview. I haven't played in the 5-5 game at Fallsview, but supposedly it's a bunch of people pissing away money. Between 2-4 decent players and the rest are complete garbage.

The $1/2 NL at Casino Niagara is about the most beatable game ever...even if you consider the $5 per half hour session fee. Occasionally we get a $2-5 $100 min $300 max game running there. Only real reason I still play there is because the place has sentimental value (spent a TON of time there between 19-21) and it's about the easiest money ever.

The room at Casino Niagara is actually pretty sizeable. You're not back to back with other players like you are in Seneca. The staff have exactly ZERO knowledge of poker. Trying to explain anything to them is absolutely beating a dead horse. The dealers are all pretty clueless, with 1 or 2 exceptions, so the game tends to be pretty slow. Fallsview seems better in that department.

Fallsview is a really nice casino (by far the best in the area). I'm not a huge fan of the games they spread, and the waits tend to be ridiculous on anything other than like a Wednesday morning.

Most of the guys that deal at Seneca play in a weekly game at my friend's house, heh. There's a few I don't know, but I would easily recognize on sight. I got sick of Seneca in a hurry as there are actually some decent players at the lower NL games and their spread typically sucks.

If anyone knows of a decent Omaha game that runs in this area, let me know. I have yet to find a casino that regularly spreads it...and probably never will.

OK. Casino Niagara is 2-4 -> 5-10. I'm not sure if they have 1-2 NL.

Fallsview Casino is sporadic because they're only open until 4am on weeknights. Weeknight action is usually 6-12, 10-20, and 5-5 ($500 max) NL. All of these games are very good to anyone who can beat the $100 NL at party.

On eekends, things are very different. They have 10 tables going usually, a few 5-5 NLs, a couple 6-12s, a couple 10-20s, maybe a 20-40, and a 10-20 NL ($500 min $3000 max). Maybe every other weekend a 25-50 NL game ($1000 min $10000 max) goes. All the big NL games are wild preflop and very tricky aggressive postflop.

Check out some of my or Diplomat's posts in Mid-High NL for examples.

Casino Niagara definitely has $1/2 NL and they will open a $2/5 NL ($100 min, $300 max) on demand. Their limits run from $2/4 to $6/12 as I recall, nothing any higher for limit games.

Hotel: Very nice. Large rooms. Convenient and free parking. Somewhat isolated from the crowds, yet easy access to the falls. Highly recommended if you are staying in Niagara Falls.

Poker Room: Comfortable and spacious. I walked into the room at 11pm Sunday to find one 10-20 and two 6-12 tables going, plus four NL games. The 10-20 game looked to be full of regulars and I did not like the look of it so I joined the 6-12 list and was seated by 11:30pm.

This game was mostly locals but as other posters have mentioned easily beatable. Rake is 5% to $5 with no jackpots, which was refreshing. The best player in the game was sitting two seats to my right and the only other solid TAG was to his right. This turned out to be a good spot for me. I quit at 4am up $234. The cards ran well for me, but I did lose once with AA and twice with sets. The bloated pots I won more than made up for these beats.

The dealers moved the games along pretty well, but I must add that a couple of the younger dealers need to learn to be more professional. One guy in particular was more interested in carry on conversations with the younger local players and this led to mistakes. And the floor was rather blase. The following is an example:

Hero dealt Q /images/graemlins/spade.gifT /images/graemlins/spade.gif UTG limp. Three limps to SB who raises and all call.

Flop(12SB): K /images/graemlins/spade.gifJ /images/graemlins/diamond.gif6 /images/graemlins/spade.gif.
SB bets, BB calls, hero raises, two calls, SB call, BB folds.

Turn(10.5BB): 8 /images/graemlins/spade.gif.
SB bets, hero raises, one call, SB calls.

* <font color="blue">Dealer who has been chatting with the young drinkers at the other end of the table places the muck on top of the deck and declares "show 'em" while I am yelling "whoa whoa whoa, one more."</font> The pot was split three ways with SB showing AA with a spade. Granted I could have lost on the river, but this one pissed off our normally mild-mannered hero and I let the dealer have it a bit with some rant about paying attention to and keeping control of his game. After a minute or two I was alright again. Ugh.

Oh and the drinks are expensive. Maybe I just felt this way because of the vegas feel to the place, my mind was ready for free drinks. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I was there in April.

They spread limit HE up to 20-40. The smallest like others said is 6-12. At 10-20 and over they rake $7, which is rediculous.

They also spread 5-5 and 10-20 NLHE.

One thing, their room opens at noon I think. Get there when they open, or you'll wait 2+ hours for any game.

Hope that helps.

When I walked in both Monday and Tuesday mornings around 11am there was one table of NL going. FYI.

That could very well be. But it is my understanding that they're now open 24/7 vs the noon-4:30am they were doing before.

I live near both casinos and can confirm the poker is:

Fallsview Casino: 6/12 to 20/40, 5/5NL, 10/20NL, and on very special weekends where they're busy, they will spread 25/50NL.

Casino Niagara: 2/4 through 6/12, 1/2 NL is the most popular game by far and they have between 2 and 6 tables of this running at any given time during busy-hours (7pm and after). 2/5NL 300 max spread when there's enough takers.

There are grinders who do this for a living at both casinos (even 1/2!), but you'll quickly find that the bad players outnumber them by a good margin. If you're high stakes, the NL at fallsview on the weekends is particularly good with big Toronto money coming down... WILD! Wish i had the roll for it.

Oh, and fallsview hotel is top notch. Not cheap, but nice if you're looking for the whole experience. Keep in mind booze is not free over here in the casino if you want to get licked.
