Is it possible to use your laptop as a dual monitor for your desktop - or vice versa?

Instead of getting a fancy new monitor and having dual monitors - i'd much rather have a second computer, but it would be sweet if I could "link" them together if I ever wanted to 8 table. --

I know I could run them both indepentantly, but I'm just thinking it'd be nice to have one mouse etc...

Since it is quite dependent on your laptop, read this (http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/display_multi_monitors_overview.mspx) and see if it doesn't help.

I hook up my monitor to my laptop and use extended desktop... is that all you're asking? I'm not sure if it's possible to input to a laptop screen from another computer, but you can definitely just use a second monitor with most laptops (it just has to have a port for the monitor cable, obviously).
