Spend the time watching the Riddick Bowe v. Evander Holydfield fights instead. Bowe-Golota 2 is also a must see.

I hated it the first time, but I've seen it like 6 times now and it gets better each time. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The story isn't too shabby, the effects are pretty cool. It's just that Vin Diesel isn't a good actor and has horrible line delivery almost always. I was entertained by it.

i ended up watching the whole thing, though there were some parts i wasn't paying much attention to. i rated it 2 stars on netflix. it wasn't wholly devoid of merit, but i wouldn't voluntarily watch it again, either.

On a scale of ten, I'd say chronicles is a 7 and pitch black is an 8.

Maybe his scale goes from 10 (worst) to 1 (best). Wait, that doesn't make sense as Pitch Black is infinity times better than Chronicles. On my scale (1-10) Pitch Black is a solid 7.5, while Chronicles is a 4.

I did enjoy Chronicles, but I am a huge Sci Fi geek, so pretty much anything with aliens, lasers and space [censored] is going to work for me.

No, I use entertainment scale. I'll leave the good/bad ratings to the Academy. 1 would be something like Meet the Fockers and 9 would be Fear and Loathing.

Edit: you're probably right though. Pitch Black should be further away from FaLiLV than 1 point. So make pitch black a 7 and chronicles a 6. That looks about right.

Now that you mention it, you reminded me that something usually felt a little "off" with Vin Diesel's acting in Pitch Black(I didn't see Chronicles of Riddick, and from the reviews here, now I guess I won't). Anyway, his acting seemed to have a little of the male model, look at me I'm such a rockin' tough guy hype to it. He would often set up in a bitchin' pose before delivering a line. Always a little bit of business before he came out with it, and it wasn't an actor's bit of business to let you glimpse a flash of his soul or his feelings or thought; it was a mannequin's bit of business to be sure he was in position to give off an impression or have a studly look.

Kind of like the way he would tense his muscles every chance he got. There's being low bodyfat and cut, and there's posing with your muscles tense to show off like a teenage goofball on the other.

Apparently it works on the girls. They seem to love him and his bod. I guess that explains Peachy's response.

The thing is, there was something likeable about the guy somewhere; it's just that his performance felt so unnatural. I guess he's acting from the outside in, not the inside out.

The movie was okay, but had the usual gaffes. Like, sometimes a little light would keep the monsters away, and at other times even more light wouldn't do jack to stop them. I had fun, though, and would recommend it as a rental. It was lightweight, forgettable fun.

I didn't have any interest in Diesel going in, though, and I don't have an ounce more going out. I guess that's not a good sign.
