I'm becoming increasingly frustrated with this program for a variety of reasons. Can someone suggest a new messaging program that is better than Trillain?

This will not help me, as it does do MSN and Yahoo as well.

Does this stop all the gay ads and stuff like that that AIM infects?

No. Trillian is it. There is no other.

CNET / download.com might be a good place to look for this stuff.

Do you need a program that supports Y! and MSN?

What's your prob with Trillian? I've used it for about 3 years now, and have never had a problem.

That is indeed what it does. There is also a free program out there called AIMhack that removes the ads without adding any functionality like deadaim

Any particular reason to buy it over basic?

I think I paid for my copy during one of the periods when Yahoo had just changed their messaging format, making it incompatible with the old Trillian. If you were a registered user you could d/l the patch immediately, even though it hadn't been through beta, yet. The free version wasn't going to be patched for a couple of weeks. Can't live without my Trillian.

You have it installed, right? And, have you set up your connection(s)? Which i.m. services (AIM, ICQ, Yahoo!, etc.) are you registered on?

This is the correct answer, and it's not even close.

Seriously, just get gaim (http://gaim.sourceforge.net/)!

Trillian fucks up for me sometimes, being slow and prone to crashing.

Gaim is more stable but has less features, and I haven't found anything better than Trillian... even though it kinda pisses me off.

Gaim is a lot nicer/quicker than Trillian. Trillian has some semblance of file transfers working, so it's more usable. That's the only reason I use it instead of Gaim.

This is total news to me. The only trouble I've ever had with Trillian is when Yahoo! changed its messaging format and rendered Trillian incompatible (happened twice). The folks at Cerulean fixed the problem within hours in both cases (but used one to leverage people into paying for it...that kind of tweeked me).
