Really simple question

Hey all,
If two people are heads-up, and both of them hold Ax, and neither of their kickers hit, and neither of them make a flush or a straight, is the pot split between them,or does the higher kicker take the pot.

Higher kicker so long as it beats the board, otherwise a split.

So if on guy has A9,and the other has A7, and the board is
2, 10, 3, K,J it's a split pot, but if the board is 2,3,5,6,8 then the guy with A9 wins the pot?

I think you've half got it. A9 would win in both your examples.

Player A: A9

Player B: A7

Hand 1

Board is 2, T, 3, K, J

Player A has A, K, J, T, 9
Player B has A, K, J, T, 7

Player A beats player B.

To beat the board means any card on the board (that of course isn't paired). If you both only have a high card then the A would definitely beat the board. Kickers would come into play if someone's kicker beat the second lowest card on the board.

Example of a split

A9 vs A7

Board K, Q, Q, T, 8

Both players use the A but neither of the kickers can beat the board i.e. the ten with the kicker.

Also (without a paired board) A7 vs A3

Board K, Q, T, 9, 2

Split, both players play A, K, Q, T, 9

simple, the pot goes to (or is split among) the best 5 card hand other cards don't count for anything.

If there is a flush, even if your 3rd flush cards is higher than theirs you win.

Regardless of the poker game, the best 5 card hand wins the pot. If there's a dispute, ask each player to name the 5 cards he's playing.
