$100 game on PokerRoom.

200/400 blinds. UTG has 235 chips

UTG folds, button ($2,855, no notes but seems a bit weak/tight) min raises to 800. SB folds. I ($7,280) push with T9o. Thoughts?

Hmm... intriguing. Originally, I thought this play was being made on the bubble, in which case, I love it. But when ITM, to a weak tight player, I'd rather just smooth call here and throw out a bet on the flop if you feel inclined to make a move. This way you won't double up Villain if he woke up with a hand.

sorry, to clarify, I'm in BB, so it is on the bubble.

Interesting, but I don't do it, because I expect to get spite-called or called here, and often, too. Still, if you've got a good enough read (and I don't know what that is), this is pretty nice.

You think people will risk going out on the bubble when they can virtually gurantee and ITM finish, often?

Considering people can suck at poker, and people who minraise 1/4th of their stack are generally in the former, yes.

Still, it seems like this Villain is the type of idiot that thinks "I don't want to bust, so I'll just minraise my KJs and fold to a raise."

Ilya was just talking about this; how people should be tight but aren't in these kind of situations. Play the player, not the stacks.

Default is to push here, of course.

I know that when I have no notes on someone at this point in a tournament it probably means that they are decent enough to not make any stupid plays that attract my attention. A miniraise for 1/4 of his stack here is either a monster or a very stupid player. Even if this read is wrong and he's stupid doing this with a marginal hand, he still might call with his crap.

Well I thought the villain's range of calling hands was pretty slim, but perhaps I should re-evaluate that. I didn't really find out though as he had KK and I didn't get my miracle.

Pushing would be standard for me in this spot.

One thing to consider is that a truly weak tight player will have an extremely narrow range of hands in this situation, and as weak tight as he is, won't be able to fold many of them.
