so for the 3rd time tonite, i lost 20%+ of my stack at lvl1 with top pair when some idiot limps with any 2 (ie: q4, 92, t6) and flops 2pair or a straight.

That got me thinking about implied odds. yeah, limping with any 2 hoping to spike 2pair+ isnt worth it, even for 15 chips.

But how about if you have connectors, or AXs?

you'll get HUGE implied odds. ie: noone will think you have 68 for the straight.

Your thoughts?

This is why you need to raise preflop if you expect to hit top pair, or else be prepared to fold it. Feel free to limp crap on the button and sb in unraised pots.

if yer playing on pstars, fine. If yer playing 800 or 1k chip poker.. its not gonna hit nearly enough to be worth it (although it seems like it when the fish do it)..

One of the problems is you are going to get raised too much preflop unless you are at least on the button.

There are other problems, like it being hard to get paid if you flop a flush or a straight or being in a drawing or semi-bluff position if you don't or getting beat by a better straight, but in late position I think it can be done profitably. I don't really do it though.
