I have ran into jerry buss (owner of the lakers) playing johnny chan 400-800 at the bike. Funny thing is this was the day kobe got arrested.

Also Olden Polynice usually plays $10 paigow at the huster (after losing all his money at HP)

Congratulations on meeting a famous person. It's fun when you play at the same table and beat them, too.

The Salt Cracka. The once king of OOT.

It's not just a myth. He has played in a raked live game before.

I was too afraid to ask for his autograph. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Brad Garrett (sp?) from Everybody Loves Raymond was on the table beside mine in the WSOP this year. I have also played blackjack with some NHL players like Darian Hatcher.

Affleck, Tobey McGuire, James Woods, Lou Diamond Phillips, Jerry Buss (he played 25-50!!!).

James Woods, before discovering NL, played 15-30 and 25-50 at the Hustler all the time. We met in confusion over an empty seat, when JW was called to fill it. We talked quite a bit over the next couple months. Whenever I beat him in a pot, he'd ask me 20 questions..."should i have called the turn? should i have checkraised the flop?". I tried to be polite, while uninformative.

Then, one day at commerce he's playing 40-80. A friend of mine comes up to me while I'm waiting for a seat and tells me "OMG...James Woods is playing, I wish I had the bankroll to play that high (friend was playing 20-40)....I love Mr. Woods, he's my favorite actor!!"

I said "hey, I'll introduce you".

"you know him?"

"yeah, we play together a lot at Hustler".

Right them, James sees me, and comes over TO ME and says hi, then starts picking my brain about a hand he lost. My friend just drops his jaw in amazement.

But the best story I've heard is my friend in LV, who was playing 15-30 with ARod, sitting next to him. ARod asked friend "Why aren't you playing bigger, you play really well". Friend didnt have hte money to play in the 80-160 game, and was waiting for the 30-60 game. ARod told friend to put his name on the 80, as ARod would stake him.

Arod left before friend got called, but how cool would it be to be staked by arod? Wicked.

When the Mirage was new I saw Eddie Murphy being shown the cardroom there. He then went over to play craps with thousand dollar chips. It was amazing to watch all the beautiful women approach his bodyguards for who knows what purposes.

I've played here in Vancouver with Kevin Smith (Silent Bob) and Jason Mewes a few times. Also ex-NHL star Pavel Bure. A guy people claimed was Roman Abramovich played an entire blackjack table at $500 a hand next to me once also, but I doubt it was really Roman Abramovich, just some russian dude.

Some well-known poker players I've played against: Greg Raymer, Jack McClelland, Jim Brier (didn't know it was he until later), Denny Axel.

Some name dropping for ya...

Played 4/8 with 70s movie psycho David Hess. He was losing and seriously pissed off. I don't think he had to "act" much to play the roles he did.

Routinely saw former Celtic Cedric Maxwell playing stud at Foxwoods. Saw former ECW owner/manager Paul Hayman twice. Saw Tom Vu at the Mirage on Thursday and I almost [censored] my pants.

Played 10/20 with Buddy Williams, the handicapped guy from the season 1 WPT Tunica episode. Nice guy.

Saw Evelyn Ng at McCarran Airport in Vegas. Met Phil Gordon at Foxwoods...

If you play a lot in the big rooms in Vegas you'll see famous players fairly frequently. I've spotted: Hansen, Seidel, Todd Brunson, and a few others... but I've done enough name dropping already.

08-08-2005, 07:02 AM
Jay and Silent Bob, 5-5NL Foxwoods. Pretty sure i saw David Ortiz at Foxwoods at the rainmaker entrance, but i was mildy intoxicated.

Would love to see Greg Raymer post in this thread...

"I've played against Chan, Brunson, Reese, Hellmuth, Cloutier, Negreneau, Annie Duke and Ivey... all at the same table. That was a while after winning a big tournament though, so I soft-played them."

Haha.

There's a guy that looks a bit like Gus Hansen in a weekly tournament I've started playing in, I'm in Denmark too so for a while I thought it might actually be him, much too low stakes though.

I have played with David Arquette and Lou Diamond Phillips. I also saw Paris Hilton walk through one night at the Bellagio, on her way to Caramel.

In addition, I have seen the usual tournament group of Toby and James Woods.

Just recently, I was at a celebrity tournament with Cameron Diaz, Daunte Culpepper, Shane Battier, Mike Miller, Terrell Owens, and some others.

I've only played with famous poker people. not real celebs

Tommy Angelo, El Diablo (or was it Ulysses?) JA Sucker, Ray Zee and the Faaaabulous Poker Babe top the list. Also Puggy Pierson, Oklahoma Johnny Hale, Huck Seed and Daniel N (back when he was starting out, not since he's been playing for insane money).

Tom Tolbert used to go to the oaks (not sure if he still does), but I've never played with him. MC Hammer used to come into the Oaks as well, because he father was a long time employee of the club.

It's not really poker, but it's close...

1995. I'm playing Let It Ride at the Luxor. Very large black gentleman sits next to me with a smaller Hispanic guy. I think nothing of it. They are betting the same as me, $5 a spot. We play awhile, nothing out of the ordinary. Then I notice the really large guy has an All-Star Game ring. I start racking my brain, trying to figure out who this guy could be. I'm not really paying attention to my cards when I get two aces. Of course I Let It Ride because it's an automatic winner.

Who is it? I had been to the A's home opener, which was in Vegas that year because of construction at the stadium in Oakland. But the next game was being played at the time, so it couldn't be one of the A's or whoever they played on Opening Day. Who was Oakland playing the next day?

Dealer turns an A. Hey, three of a kind, that's pretty good. But who is this guy? Detroit was next on the schedule. Who on Detroit played in the All-Star Game? Think, think! But don't be obvious.

Dealer turns another A. It's Cecil Fielder! I just got four aces! It's Cecil Fielder! I just won $750 sitting next to Cecil Fielder! Whoo hoo!

When I turned my hole cards, the table erupted in high fives. A guy who earned $9 million a year was as excited as I was. And he was betting $5 like me.

Sad thing is, I've heard all of Cecil's millions are gone. Apparently he moved on to higher limits and lost it all. But I was there when he bet $5.

Well since this thread has moved from poker to any kind of gambling here goes....

Played with Rosie O'Donell years ago before her talk show at the mirage. We were playing 3/6 at the same table. She was doing a stand up gig at the sands that night.

Played Dice with Magic Johnson, and Ron Harper at the Hard rock a few years back...Ron was very nice talking with people, and talking pictures with anyone that asked.

Played Dice with Emmit Smith years ago at the Hilton, guy was a complete dick, and no one was really trying to talk to him, he was just acting like a spoiled brat.

Saw Tony Danza at the coffe shop in the Orleans, some one asked him for an autograph, and he turned them down flat.

Played poker with Norm McDonald at the Mirgae 10/20 about 1.5 years ago.

Played with are very own Gavin Griffin here in chicago at the Thrump NL game about 8 months ago - he dropped 5k(according to him)

Saw Dennis Franz looking very plain with his wife(I think) playign BJ at the Hollywood in Aurora IL.

Ran face first into Brent Musburger trying to make a bet at the horsebook at the mirage. Tote taker says hes a big regular who bets it up on the ponys. I ran right into him and we almost butted heads. he is Tall...I am 6'3, and he had me buy an inch or two.

For you Canadians:

I played 2/4 limit to the left of Pat Mastroianni (Joey Jeremiah on Degrassi Junior High/High/The Next Generation and host of Music Works) at Casino Niagra.
Down $7 he complained to me that "that's a pack of smokes". He was also missing "important calls" to play hands.

A lot of posters are listing Poker Pros. That shouldn't count. Of course we've all seen poker pros play if you spend any time at all in a Casino. So my choices don't include them.

Arod and James Woods although you might argue that Woods is a poker pro since he plays so much now but he's really famous for his movies.

I played 5-5 pot limit hold em with Alex Rodriguez, when the Yankees were in the town against the Brewers, I picked up pocket Kings potted a bunch of limpers, and only A-rod and I saw the flop. The flop came A high and I bet $50 into an $80 pot and took it down.

All at Commerce:
1. Saw James Woods just last week. Asked him how he did, he said nicely flat. Was able not to tell him how much I liked all his movies blah blah, which I am proud of myself for.
2. Had a nice short talk with Johnny Chan a few months ago table-side (he was backing one of my competitors).
3. Had a nice short talk at the cage last year with Chad Brown (he seemed genuinely surprised to be recognized).
4. Played at the 100 (might have been 200) NL buy in table not too long after ESPN showed 03 WSOP final table. Moneymaker was wearing the glasses, etc. Ben Affleck (and remember this is some time ago) was also playing that night (torrential rain storm).

And of course if you go to the Bellagio you will see whomever on any random night in the poker world.

Outside of the casino, let me say that the nicest chat definitely goes to Mr. Ferguson, on our way to Vegas on Southwest airlines (he to play a WPT event, me to work).
