View Full Version : AC before new Year?

I'm planning on being in Atlantic City from 28th to 30th December, ie just prior to New Year.

Being clueless, I would greatly appreciate any suggestions/recomendations regarding where to stay, how good the games are likely to be (and where) at this time of year, and any other possible things to do/see in AC. I will be entertaining my gorgeous girlfriend, while using the poker tables to distract my friend; he plans on playing $5-10 or $10-20 HE, while I may play a bit of HE or stud. Is there any Hi-Lo stud 8 action?

Jeff recommended staying at the Sheraton in a recent thread, but any further advice most welcome.

Regards

Graham

Hi Graham...I may see you and your friend at the tables =). Whatever you do, get a room NOW. Rooms in AC get booked quickly, espescially for the holiday season. Casinos will be very expensive to stay at as I mentioned, and the Econolodge is a cheap hotel option (I doubt you'll spend much time in your room anyway, but cab it to casinos at night). There is non-gambling stuff to do, but much less in the Winter than the Summer. There is a Ripley's Believe It or Not museum that is entertaining in a hokey way and pretty reasonably priced. You can walk the boards, but the sea breeze may make it chilly. Casino hopping is a lot of fun (Wild West is a fun place to visit, as is Caesars). As for poker action, Taj has stud 8 going MOST of the time (usually at 5-10 or mid limits like 10-20, 15-30). There is hold 'em and stud at all limits all the time. I think the Trop has a low cost (maybe 50ish) stud 8 tourney on Sundays. If you are a glutton for "punishment" you can play in the $7.50-$15 game at Trop (all $2.50 chips and every player has a huge castle). Lots of good restaurants in AC...ask around (steakhouse at Taj is good as well as the asian place, for buffet check out the Hilton), and the Trop always has some kind of "exhibit" to check out (like World War 2 stuff or something, it varies); and check out the entertainment (I'm sure there will be some that weekend) on Ticketmaster.

Thanks a heap for the extra info Jeff.

I'm going with my gorgeous girlfriend, so want to get a decent place to stay - sounds like the Sheraton may be the best bet.

If you see a tall scottish guy hanging out with a cute dark haired american chick and a tall lanky bermudian, that'll be me.

thanks again

good luck
