I'm not worried about villian having KQ until he shows me. And I'm not going to give him odds to draw to any straight or flush.

Bet 2/3 pot - pot on the flop, take it from there. (I'd call an all in push from villian). Turn will start to clear itself up after this bet.

I certainly wouldn't check this flop through. I'd be thinking I have the best hand but I don't want this guy to have odds to call with a gutshot or OESD. Must bet flop.

First of all, I would have upped it another 90 preflop to get more chips into the pot. He'll almost certainly call it. I might even bump up all the way to 270.

Assuming he calls, I get a tinge of nervousness with K-Q out there because it's possible I'm looking at KK or QQ. A pot size bet seems right, and then go from there.

I agree I should have bet on the flop. This is the showdown...I was called having given 2.5 to 1 odds I think and then the straight was made. I suppose there were some extra outs for the flush draw as well...

Makes it t200, and hopes Villain doesn't fold.

The less confident you are in playing postflop, the more you should raise preflop.

I'm glad you lost this pot, it will go a long way towards teaching you the value of betting the flop with what is going to be the best hand a huge proportion of the time.

Occasionally you're going to get stuffed here, but that's why the game has such things as variance and required bankrolls and all that kind of stuff.

Make a nice bet on the flop and cut out all chances of him hitting a runner runner. You will also be amazed how often a hand like K7 decides to donate his chips to you.

You're still thinking in terms of bad beat.

You were called by a $5 player who got the maximum luck out of a combination of his own gamble (This is what $5 players do) and someone giving him freebies.

As a learning, thinking player, assume for now that you never get unlucky, you will learn a lot more.

The preflop raise is okay, but at the PS 5s, you can still get plenty of loose calls in levels 1-3. When I first started playing the 5s, I was making raises of 3-4 times the big blind when first in from EP, and routinely getting 3 or 4 callers. In the first three levels, I tend to mix it up between 4-6 or 4-7 BB now depending on the game, and still frequently get 1 or 2 callers. Of course, it's level 2 and this game still has 9 players, and no one's more than 500 chips away from where they started, so YMMV, or people apparently forgot they were playing a Stars 5+.5.

The turn raise is inconsistent with the flop check. If you thought you had the best hand then (when a card hit that would help a lot of hands that would've called preflop), you certainly had the best hand on the flop. Betting out here will get you a call from almost all kings, most queens, AJ/AT, some middle pairs people just can't get away from, and the occasional third pair with a gutshot flush draw. Also, in this kind of game, note that villain's bet/call on the turn is often indicative of some kind of draw. I would give some thought to folding on the river, but I personally get married to aces (leak), and would probably call it down, too.
