...Felix Hernandez. First teenage pitcher to start a game since Todd Van Poppel. 5 innings, 3 hits, 1 earned, 2 walks, 4 k's. He'll probably blow his arm out soon but its still something for M's fans to look forward to.

good outing for a debut.

He settled down after the first. In the first, he loaded the bases with no outs, gave up a run scoring single, but then got a 3-2-3 dp and a K to get out of the inning with only 1 run. He looked good.

Saw him pitch last night, he was awesome. 8 innings, 5 hits, no walks, 6 k's in only 94 pitches. In the post game interview someone asked Ron Gardenhire about Felix's poise. He said "poise? he throws 97 with a devastating curve"

Watching him pitch actually gave me goosebumps. Hopefully Bryan Price doesn't find a way to [censored] him up like Pineiro, Meche, Soriano, etc.

Bryan Price will be fired after the end of this season. In fact, I can't think of one reason to keep him.

Their problems are much deeper than just the pitching coach though. They have a fundemental problem in developing young arms, which points to the minor league system and medical team. Really pisses me off, the more I think about it.

Is he pitching Sunday or Monday?

as a twins fan i can say he is the going to be the best young pitcher in the league the rest of the season until we bring up franscico liriano. and then it will be a toss up. but he was amazing last night. made our guys look stupid and he had this cocky arrogance i'd love to see on my team.

I think he will pitch Monday. They have an off day, so Hargrove will probably give everyone in the rotation an extra day of rest.

So far tonight....8 IP, 3 hits, 1 run, 1 BB, 11 K's...99 pitches 67 strikes. Haven't been able to turn it on til just now....it is just the Royals but still, he's making them look completely foolish.

dude has a wicked fastball, lots of movement on it. He was hitting 98 tonight.

The curveball on that last strikeout was just nasty.

They were going over his stats on KJR last night ...

21 innings
11 hits -- all singles
21 strikeouts
2 earned runs
Lefties batting .100 against him
Righties batting .180 against him

Wow.

BTW, his 11 Ks tonight were the most by an M's pitcher since Freddie Garcia in 1999. Six years since a Mariner struck out more than 10. That's incredible, not to mention pathetic.

I may actually get off my fat ass and go out to Safeco to watch this kid pitch. He is pretty amazing.

I love that Morse hit a 2 run dinger in his first AB after sitting for 6 days. [censored] Scott Spiezio and his .040 average. It is an embarrassment that he is still on the roster.

Haha, no kidding, that's great.

That's it, next time he has a home start, we all have to catch a ballgame. Someone figure out when that is.

Holy Christ, watching the highlights and this kid is utterly filthy. That's a ton of movement on a 97 mph fastball.

Yeah, except Felix didn't end up pitching, so I figured it wasn't quite as good of a matchup to see. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Looks like it should be Friday the 26th against the White Sox.

That lineup should be a better test than Tigers, Twins, and Royals. If he shuts Chicago down, he is probably for real.

He's for real regardless. One of the best pitching prospects of the last 20 years.
