I dunno, that's a tough one. Clint made Speghetti Westerns. There really isn't much to compare them too, it's basically a category of it's own, but I've never thought of them as Action movies.

Clint also made the Dirty Harry series, which I would argue are action/thrillers. He made several action/war movies, like Heartbreak Ridge Kelly's Heroes and Where Eagles Dare. Then there's movies like Firefox, Escape from Alcatraz and In the Line of Fire, all three movies that are categorized as Action/adventure.

Basically, Clint is about as much action hero as anyone.

On a side note...I was married at his ranch in Carmel. Not only was it the biggest mistake of my short life at the time...I missed meeting him by 10 minutes (he was there having dinner)...
