Empire 400NL full ring. Villain has $388, I have him covered. He has rock-like stats - 10/4/2

I get 3 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif 3 /images/graemlins/spade.gif in the cutoff.

Folds around to me and I make it $12. Villain calls on button. Blinds fold.

Flop (2 players) is Q /images/graemlins/club.gif 7 /images/graemlins/heart.gif 3 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif

I bet $20 into a $28 or so pot. He raises to $50. I call.

Turn (2 players) is A /images/graemlins/heart.gif

I check, going for a check-raise. He checks.

River (2 players) is J /images/graemlins/spade.gif

I bet $100, he raises all-in.

My action?
Should I have 3-bet the flop?
Should I have bet the turn? (If so, I'd prefer to 3bet the flop)

bet/threebet the turn all-in.

threebetting the flop really lets him off easy on this board.

Is a rock going to call this with anything that I beat?

I assume you're telling me to do this so that I don't get 2 outed... is it +EV to do that though?

I'm not asking rhetorical questions.. I just honestly don't know and I can't see any reason to 3 bet this all in other than that. If I did that, he'd likely put me on QQ.

AQ, get more value from QK, QJ etc.

you don't in general bet a set to defend against a higher set draw. you bet it because it's almost always best and almost always has the other guy drawing dead.

not even a rock gets away from AQ here. if you bet and he raises again, he's committed and you get your chips in as a massive favorite. as played, you lose lots of value.

you have a set, bet.

He had JJ

I should have folded.

Anyone agree?

Not betting on the turn here is weak- always bet a set with a board like this.

If so, why not just 3 bet the flop and NOT give him a free card?

I was trying to check-raise him, not check it down.

3bet a dry flop like that and you lose TPTK

bet into raiser on undercard turn he puts you on TPGK and raises or at least calls with AQ

Fim, how much do you generally bet on the turn here? 2/3 pot or so?

since hitting 2/4 my betting regime has been flop pot turn pot river 2/3 pot. i haven't strayed since.

edit: WRT what's best for you, just bet whatever your normal turn bet is. for this forum, everyone seems to like 2/3-3/4 pot on turn, so that range is fine. I figure when im 4 tabling im playing tighter than my tables, so i like full pot. if i were one tabling and LAGging, probably less.

So is this what you do when making a continuation bet with, say, a missed AK/AQ raise?
