I observed this hand, and criticized my friend for the way he played. A disagreement ensued. What do you think?

JT (QJ also) is a hand where, for some reason, I make a huge difference between it being suited or not.

I never limp JTo before LP. I never open a pot with it.

JT suited, I limp from EP at a passive table. I open limp from EP at a very passive table.

I open-raise with JTs from LP.

I'd like to hear what others think on this.

Oh yeah, I don't play 200$NL btw.

I generally wont limp with hands like this in any position unless my target will pay me off if I hit my hand. Given that I think if its a passive table preflop without much raising this is ok.

i would never open limp j10 off in early position at a full ring table.

is he good enough postflop and does he have reads on his opponents? playing marginal hands requires you to be good at extracting value when you hit or being able to get away from it depending on the action and the board texture. most of the money is to be made on the turn and on the river. also he should reload to 200 if he's gonna play garbage and increase his implied odds.

No reads.

I think it's a terrible play. Like one of the other posters said, it requires great skill and judgement after the flop. He's going to have to make a lot of tough decisions. And the best part is, he's going to have to make those decisions out of position. I don't see how that can lead to anything good unless he is one of the best NL cash game players around.

Don't think it has to be that hard. All he has to do is give this up to a big raise preflop, or fit or fold on the flop.

No expert strategy required, you just need to know what you are looking for with this hand: a cheap flop that hits you big. Just fold to anything but that scenario, and this will only be a minor leak IMO.
