Can anyone fill me in on this. I play on pokerstars and usually play in the $10 daily tourney, $20 tourney, $11+R, $30, $50, occasional $150 tourney and about once a month I'll play in the $215 sunday tourney. What is a good ITM percentage?

Not sure there is a set number for this like in SnGs. If all you were going for is ITM it would probably be easy to get this number way up there by giving up chances at the real money. With that said my best guess for a decent number would be 1 in 3 ITM.

I don't know the specifics of how many players get paid and how much etc, but I would say that it would be much less than 1 in 3 ITM finishes. One final table makes up for the many times you don't finish in the money so my guess would be considerably less than 1 in 3. But a lot depends on how well you do once you make it ITM. If you frequently bust out shortly after making the money your percentage would have to be a bit higher.

Usually its about the top 10% cash so i think 1/3 is impossible. If theres 1200 people in a tourney on stars the top 180 cash.

ITM doesn't matter - ROI does.

Here is a real life example of why ITM% matters so little.

I recently updated my YTD stats from UB.

101 MTTs
11 cashes
6 FTs

My biggest cash was 2nd place in a 550 person 30+3. That tournament alone, turns a break even year into a 100+% ROI year. I could have cashed in 100% of my tournaments and had a lower ROI than if I won that tournament alone.

You should be getting 10% cashes.

Does that mean I am one of the greatest players to ever play since I have >10% ITM????

That's called variance.

Don't be suprised if you run the next two dozen tournaments not cashing once, now that you've jinxed yourself. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

It means that you're not playing too weak and settling for just ITM, and not giving yourself a shot at those $5k cashes you weak/tight pussy (this coming from somebody with a 21% itm over his last 100, but a very weak 74% ROI). /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

What is variance? I was no good at stats in high school, I always confused the median and 'my favorite one'.

Looks like you're 2nd to me. I've cashed 14/96 MTTs Wahoo!

Call me crazy, but I would think that % ITM is not even arguably relevant to any gauge of success, and I would say to the OP that you should be logging hours played versus money won to determine an hourly rate, and judging your success that way...hell you could win only one tournament a year after playing 1000 tournaments but that one was WSOP main event, your % ITM is crap but you still made like $10k an hour the whole time SO WHO CARES:) compare that to getting last place ITM in each and every one of those 1000 tournaments, 100% ITM baby I am God right? But oops, you got paid like $20 an hour for all your efforts so which player would you rather be? In the end, it's only hourly rate that counts. [ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ] It's ALL about hourly rate.
