I live with 2 roomates. We all have laptops. One laptop does not have wireless capabilities so he will be using a cord still. My laptop uses a small plug-in and my roomate has built-in wireless capabilities.

I was recommended the Linksys 2.4 ghz as a cheap, good, functional router. link (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00007KDVI/102-2038548-3431331?v=glance)

A few questions: Is this everything we will need to go wireless? Will we have to buy anything else?

Does anyone have any reviews or thoughts on this router? Any other recommendations?

That should be it. Linksys is very good, imo.

Linksys sucks. I have had two different linksys wireless G routers and they both had their own problems.

The first one I had worked fine for about 4 months, then it decided to stop forwarding all ports. No way around it, tried reseting the router, updating the firmware, power cycling it, all of which were futile attempts. After about 4 more months of this first crappy router I got a new one which has its own unique problems.

Every day (at least once a day) the wireless signal drops to 1 mbps, and I lose internet connectivity and networking connectivity. The only solution I have found is to go down to the router, and unplug it and then plug it back in. This fixes the problem for about 24 hours.

Linksys is a pile of crap.

They all suck.

I'm sure others will post horror stories about Netgear and D-Link. (The other two major manufacturers.)

I bought some no-name (Airlink) wireless G router for $29.99 at Fry's, and it's been working great.
