Apparently gimmick accounts are being banned now simply for being gimmick accounts, regardless of whether they violate the T&C of the website.
Gimmick accounts can be a lot of fun, and are completely harmless (assuming they don't violate the T&C of the website). I can understand deleting gimmick account posts from the strategy forums, but OOT is where people go to hang out and chat and BS and have fun.
Lets be honest, half the posts in OOT are just meant to amuse the poster or the people reading it. Yes, most of them suck and are not funny, but does that mean all unfunny posts should get deleted? Most gimmick accounts suck too, but I think most people would agree that it's worth reading a dozen lame posts to read one that makes you bust out laughing and spit beer on your monitor.
PS: Towelie is no longer a gimmick account, but I'm going to keep this avatar/location just because I like it.

1) I watch the Conan O'Brian(sp) show every other night. I know who Max Weinberg is.
2) I mix up names a lot. I did the same thing in the sports forum a couple days ago, saying Marvin Harrison when I meant Marvin Williams

We seem to go through brief periods where a whole passel of gimmick accounts show up. I think one funny one inspires a bunch of new bad ones. But I haven't seen this recently so I'm not sure what inspires this thread. If we just ignore the unfunny ones, things will take their natural course fairly quickly.
