NewtBuggs?

no one is horrible
I would assume that UTG is on a wide range
I would also assume that the BB is probably coming along if I call, but some players might fold complete trash if I call.

thoughts?

Fold and hope BB calls it.

I would fold also. BB will call almost for sure, and if the shorty wins, you still have decent chances.

I had to call similar from a push from the button with K3o

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t300 (6 handed) converter (http://www.selachian.com/tools/bisonconverter/hhconverter.cgi)

UTG (t2890)
MP (t30)
CO (t1945)
Button (t695)
SB (t1050)
Hero (t1390)

Preflop: Hero is BB with K/images/graemlins/diamond.gif, 3/images/graemlins/heart.gif.
3 folds, Button is all-in (t695), 1 fold, Hero calls t395.

I had no choice, just like you, he had 57o, spiked a 5. I still won the tourney, though.

You have a much easier call.

You have the odds to call with any two cards, and it is not a dent in your stack.

Are you kidding? It put me on t695, with blinds of 150/300! Oh, yeah, and about to be put into the small blind. I luckily picked up JJ, and went on from there, but still.

I think your looking at the wrong stack.

I fold this. BB should call. I'm pushing next hand 100% of the time if first to act(regardless of outcome of this one).

I worded it incorrectly... it is less of a dent. You still have SOME chips to work with if you lose, but you are getting amazing odds.

995 chips isn't all that great of a situation either.

Seems like a pretty clear fold to me. Q5o is only barely better than average, and to the extent that UTG's desperation loosens your calling standards, it's going to expand the top stack BB's even more. Unless your concern is that he's deliberately trying to keep the bubble going?

With the blinds about to pass you, you've got two opportunities to pick up a better hand than Q5o and be the first one into the pot. Not to mention the blinds are about to hit shorty even if he does take them down this time, so he'll still be under pressure to play. I don't see a need to risk doubling up shorty or getting yourself busted (if BB calls behind, as he likely will) with such a marginal hand.

Newt, I'd fold, but I'm curious about one thing:

Were you concerned that if you folded, BB would also fold and keep the bubble alive? (Not that I would make this play as the BB, but I'm curious if that crossed your mind and played into your decision at all.)

There are some advantages to calling here:
-if the BB wins then I still get 3rd
-I'm increasing the chances that UTG gets knocked out this hand
-If I do win I've now got a powerful stack of 2095 but am only left with 600 (2BB) if I fold.

if UTG doubles up this hand then pushing any two on the button when I have no FE next hand doesn't make much sense to me.

Yeah Newt but your hand is garbage, You just dont have to go so out of your way to bust the shortstack. You have plenty of equity still if you fold and the shortstack wins. Your hand is just too weak, I doubt that the fact that you will beat the shortstack sometimes will offset the things you are giving up when you lose the hand.
