Pat's=trash
Geno's=Garbage
Jim's=a little better
Delessandro's in Roxborough, and John's Roast Pork down on Front & Snyder are the best. Pat's and Geno's are worth a drive-by at best just because they are institutions.
Check at the . Mutter Museum (http://www.collphyphil.org/muttpg1.shtml) for a couple of hours.

my personal favorites are from the grease trucks that line the streets.
when i was going to college, just about every morning, i got a $2 ham, egg, and cheese on long roll, followed by a $3 cheesesteak at lunch. good times...

they don't only use Whiz in Philadelphia. personally, I think Whiz is pretty nasty - American all the way.
provolone is a popular option as well.

Cheese whiz is for purists. It happens to work sorta but meh....
The idea behind the cheese whiz is that the oil goes into the bread and the cheese into the meat and then you get bread w/oil and meat w/cheese both of which are good. But I still prefer provolone.
The Reading terminal is pretty good for about an Hour. Try the OLD CITY Coffee company.

With all of the talk of Philly food, I challenge anyone here to the "South Street Triple Threat"
Rules:
Eat the following, one right after another. Do not throw up.
1) one Salsalito's Burrito, any variety
2) one Jim's Cheese Steak, prepared as you wish
3) two slices from Lorenzo's
