When someone limps and then raises on the same street, or just calls and then raises has a MONSTER hand. Stay away from them.

I don't know the psychology behind this but I get that about 5 times per day. EVERY SINGLE time someone did this, he had a monster hand. Preflop, it's ALWAYS AA or KK and postflop, is a monster that they are trying to slowplay because they saw it on TV.

I had enough of this. It's not even worth calling down his bets. When there's lots of action and someone calls/raises in between fold immediately.

No no, you need to take a note on what they had. I easily see guys who just get mad when you raise their limp and had very little. ALL THE TIME.
My li'l notes:
L/ReR:Str (the monster)
L/ReR:Mad (the 'you gonna raise me?!' guy)

Quite often anyway. And sometimes they were just asleep, or busy on another table, or looking at porn, or whatever, then they wakeup and raise on the same street.

And then they often fold like the French.

In what limits? In .5/1 it's more likely to be something suited (AKs, KQs, QJs, JTs, T9s) than AA or KK.

Well at least in nanolimits

It depends. Preflop, it could be a big hand, or it could be garbage.

However, postflop, it almost always means they are pumping their hand for value, which means they do have a monster. I take this line very seriously when I see it used postflop, and I will fold if I don't have a strong draw myself.

Passive players who use this tactic preflop usually have aces. Maniacs are maniacs and can have anything preflop, even when they do this.

Yeah, like the guy on Pacific 1/2 the other night that limp reraised me with 52o. I had AQs and hit the Q and he hit two pair on the turn. That set me on tilt for a good while and I dumped $45 to him alone. Every time I had something he caught something on the river. Maddest I've ever gotten playing poker.

Its really bad to think that they always have a monster hand. They could just as easily have some sort of draw and they wanted to pump the pot a little bit more now that they know no one is going to fold. Sometimes its also just a moron.

There really is no always or nevers in poker. Be careful about making and playing by these statements as there is always an exception if not several.

Even better are the folks with zero PFR who see nearly every flop that have been creeping into Stars .25/.50 of late. Had a guy today who limped JJ, AKs, AKo and KK. Sure it's usually dead money, but it's like playing Russian Roulette sometimes, y'know?

Had a guy at Party 1/2 6max sitting on my right yesterday who just called down every street with High PP. I watched him call down QQ on a J-high flop, KK on a 2 flush board that hit the third on the Turn, stuff like that. He found a raise with AA once on the flop, got 3-bet and called down all streets. /images/graemlins/confused.gif

I feel you.

Just without all that 'getting your head blown off' bit. I saw this three times yesterday and in each case the the limp-reraiser had J8o, 95s, and 75o respectively. I even did it myself at the same table with AA later cos these guys were calling anything and everything to the river.
