View Full Version : Lost desktop quick launch button

Not sure where it went, but the little button next to the start menu disappeared and I'd like to get it vack--its the desktop icon that minimizes all the windows you have opened.

I tried to create a shortcut to my desktop but that seems to be opening an explorer window with the desktop items/icons rather than simply minimizing everyting.

Thanks in advance,

brett

1. Click the taskbar on an empty spot with your right mousebutton
2. Choose properties
3. In the tab Taskbar (should open there)the 5th checkbox should be something like "Display xxxxx taskbar" (translating from dutch version, just look for something similar). Check that checkbox.
4. Click Ok

Done (hopefully)

ok then you either have to do the following

Go to My computer
-Find the "Documents and Settings" folder
-Find the current user folder and click it
-Find a folder Application data, that folder is problaby hidden, you can uncover it under "Extra" then "Folder options" (both translated, so you might have to look around for a bit) under the "view" tab select "Show hidden folders and files"
-Go to the "Microsoft" folder, then the "Internet Explorer" folder and finally the "Quick Launch" Folder
-open notepad, type:

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

EXACTLY LIKE THAT, and save it under "Show desktop.scf" put it in the directory that you opened and it should appear in the Quicklauch taskbar (maybe you have to restart first)

Open the Quick Launch toolbar folder, usually at c:\documents and settings\USERNAME\application data\microsoft\internet explorer\quick launch - or right-click on the toolbar (not on one of its buttons) and choose Open

File/New/Text Document

Double click your new file top open in Notepad and enter this text exactly:

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Save and close the file.

Rename the file to "Show Desktop.scf" and all should be back to normal.

Thankls for the help so far fellas, but this didn't seem to work either. Its giving me the desktop icon but launching the desktop items in an explorer window. Maybe I'm not being clear (owing to the fact that I"m a cpu moron): what I'm tyring to restore is the minimzie everything quick launch desktop icon thingy.
