Dear Forum,

Over the last week I have been sifting through all the no content/low content posts, the bat beat stories, the 5 buy-in downswing stories, the here are my results after 80 SNG stories, the flaming, and 8 million how to play AK threads.

It's tiresome.

I think that the STT forum is the best one on this site and I post and lurk here more than any other area. But I have to say we need some re-education here. I think its great to have all these people posting here but I would hope that we can keep the high level of conversation that most are accustomed to.

If everyone new to the forum would take a few minutes to read the FAQ, try out the search function and poke around in the other forums I think it will be better for all of us and will keep the STT a place where the valuable long time posters continue to come and contribute.

I think it's a community effort and everyone has to encourage a high standard, including myself.

I dunno. We're dealing with some heavy (stuff) here. Adanthar took his bar exam, ChrisV is in a lot of pain and hopefully won't LOSE his leg, iMsoLucky0 has a freakin tumor, Bigwig has a problem with increasing 4th place finishes, 11t may be coming back from a horrible downswing, raptor is losing but not telling us, Zen had a baby, Scuba can't figure out if his hand stats mean anything and Irie won a big tourney this week. Oh yeah, and curtains is lazy. I'm glad all of the above posts were made. I find them interesting - heartfelt - and often inspiring.

Let me ask you this -

Should I fold AA preflop?

Honest question from me: is it really that bad? I tend to peak in and out of this forum at random times, and I just sort through the threads I do/don't want to read. I don't find what clutter there is all that bothersome... it tends to get pushed off the first page rather quickly and I don't think it's enough where it's hindering discussion on the good threads. I could be wrong though and viewing the forum at good times, but I really haven't noticed too much unusual. There's always going to be new posters, and I probably wouldn't read the FAQ right away either (but I lurked for awhile before posting so I wouldn't post crap, so maybe that point is irrelevant).

Amen. I agree. If people do feel the need to make non-content posts, maybe there should be a non-content forum. Not to sound really selfish or anything, but I came here to improve my game. I also find that giving out advice, which is open to criticism, is also helpful to me because it makes me think.

The fact that ChrisV has made like at least a dozen posts over the last few days has guaranteed that the STT forum couldn't have gotten worse from a couple weeks ago, /images/graemlins/wink.gif.

Oh, and yes, many veteran posters have been posting about not quite poker things (to go along with the pseudo-content posts from noobs).

Social posts: UP (not quite as much e-peni waving, just curtains, /images/graemlins/tongue.gif, as in the past few weeks but more content/no content topics like surgery and such)

Noob posts: DOWN (a bit...hopefully they will continue to fall as citanul's thread is up longer)

Nice content from veterans: UP (slightly, due to in large part to Irie and ChrisV)

Rants: DOWN (has been for quite some time due mainly to Dali's absence...altho curtians had that nice thread that got locked eventually)

Forumbot appearances: WAY DOWN (guess he is in for a tune up?! :confused)

Yugo bashings: WAY DOWN (everyone has finally realized I am the greatest in the history.../images/graemlins/smirk.gif)

I agree.

Is it wrong to make jokes at work, or have a drink with your collegues after hours? Although this is an internet poker strategy forum, we are still real people, and a bit of light content posts isn't hurting this forum IMO.

If only there was some way that I wouldn't get tricked into opening non-content posts, like by reading the subject line, I would be so much happier.

And let me let you in on a little secret about all of the strategy posts. The answer to almost all of them is, "It depends." And the more time you spend here, and the more SNGs you play, you will learn that this is true.

It looked much better before 2+2 started forcing all images to be 80x80. The fat face is due to the stretched image.
But I've been considering a change soon, don't have any immediate choices yet.

I am seeing much more of Shakira these days. I am playing more ring games and she still shows up whenever I drag a pot to remind me how great I am.

I love the irony of what this thread has become as much I liked that Irieguy's "That Which We Shall Not Speak Of" turned into a what should I eat at Chipotle's post. As a result, I went to Chipotle's for the first time today and had the steak burrito with the tomato salsa and sour cream. K had chicken tacos. We both wish we had gone to taco bell. I did not have Dr. Pepper, but K had lemonade.

what makes you so high and mighty to look down upon anyone who makes a post that is "old news" to you?

if someone took the time to make as many keystrokes as it takes to type out a "n00b post", then they clearly have a honest question they want an answer to. You and I may know how the seach function works, and *whos* posts we should pull out of memory/history to get the answer, but the person with a 2 digit post count may not know these things.

I was waiting for this one. I just didn't know who it would come from. I am not bitching, I am asking. I have never flamed anyone. I have answered every question where I thought I could provide insight. When I first posted you usually got flamed on your first post for not knowing anything and things have certainly mellowed.

Look, I am not knocking anyone for posting interesting questions, ways to play hands, anything. I encourage it and love the new blood in here. All I am asking is that we remember why there are multiple forums on this site, that there is a huge archives with great information and that there is a sticky thread to help people with the most common questions.

I don't think pointing this out is a bad attitude or being high and mighty. Actaully I think it is the other way around. Just because it is easy to type some words on a web site its easy to be tough, pointed, etc. I treat this place like I am in a room with my friends, face to face, which is why I was very calm, polite and sincere in my letter - not over the top, grumpy and bitchy. I have not asked for any new rules, I am not trying to set any rules, that is why it was a letter, not a bitchy demand that things change.

All I am asking is that people help keep this place the place that everyone likes to come and post, that is all. If you are offended by that I can't help it - but I'd appreciate that you refrain from calling me high and mighty. I am a very humble person and have nothing but gratitude to this forum - I just don't want to see it deteriorate. It's my point of view, which I'm entitled to as much as you are yours.

Well it is -EV, but I quit that job about 2 weeks ago. That wasn't my career anyways, just an interim job. I meant that I'm going to be switching from a career as a pilot (which I'm trained for) to a career in air traffic control. I think that deserves a "holla." /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I serously think this place is fine the way it is.

Sure there are a lot of the same BS. But there is also a lot of fun/funny and intersting posts to read. There are also once in a while excellent posts by a lot of the high stake players.

Those "did i play my AK right" posts are by noobs, and you cant just get rid of that, you did the same remember?

Anyway, this place is great, and citanul is a great mod (so far.... /images/graemlins/grin.gif)

It really is nonsense. This month has been quite content-heavy. Just look at Gildwulf's Digest (which, in and of itself makes this forum much better than it was a few months ago).

I, personally, like that you are starting your own "The Best of Irieguy" posts where you bring up your nuggets from a few months ago and expound on them for the new crowd. My request is that your next "Best of Irieguy" should be "the funniest post ever from the pysychology forum." That would be very relevant in light of the recent "He can't call that! Why did he call that?" posts.
