well, i want to take say 5 jpg's and then make them into an animated gif

Zoner GIF Animator (http://www.zoner.com/support/download2.asp?ProductID=11) is an incredibly easy to use program, and the trial version comes without any real restrictions. The demo lasts for 30 days, so you should have plenty of time to create an avatar, etc.
