Yeah...that was my one question mark...I just never hear it mentioned, but I never hang out with many Dylan fans, either...so it's gone now...my bad.

Good call. I am not a mega-Dylan fan, and even I know that "Blood on the Tracks" is considered one of his masterworks.

Gonna second OP's noms of Long After Dark and Tunnel Of Love. I think Long After Dark might be Petty's best record, and side B has more awesome unheard songs...The Same Old You is one of my favorite tunes ever...

John Mellencamp: Mr. Happy Go Lucky, and Whenever We Wanted.

Once more for Dire Straits - Love Over Gold...sheer audacity - opening with a 14 minute-long song - "Telegraph Road" - that Mark Knopfler INSISTED to the record company be the opening single! AND it's an amazing song.

You know how some songs you hear where they're jamming at the end and it fades out and you wish they had just let them continue jamming for the next five or ten minutes?

That's this album - it only has five songs on it, yet it clocks in at over 40 minutes!

Anyone else love this album??

As a long time Petty fan I must say it is bitterly disappointing that, after seeing him live three times since '99, he has never done a Long After Dark Song live. Hard Promises is also incredible.

Everybody has heard The Waiting and Woman in Love but who knows Kings Road and Something Big?

BTW, if you Petty guys want to hear the album he never made check out The Pinetops- Above Ground and Vertical. I happened across these guys by chance and I swear to Christ this could have been old lost TP songs.

CaptSensible

Between The Buttons by The Rolling Stones. Yes it was heavily Beatle influenced but it's a fantastic and unique pop/rock record. The production and mixing is great. Charlie is hitting one of his many peaks and songs like Miss Amanda Jones are eternally listenable.

Also:

Any album by the Kinks between 1965 and 1970

Pearl Jam's whole catalog after "Ten", but mainly "Binaural" and "No Code". No, they're not going to sound like they did on "Ten" again, and I'm glad (31 live shows and counting for me).
