220 players. Down to 37 players, paying 30. Blinds are 300-600 75 ante. I was in the SB with 3,030 behind the 300 SB posted (37/37 players). The player in the 30th position of the tournament has 6,100 in chips. Chip leader of the tournament is directly to my right on the button.

Folds around to the button, who bets 2,000 (automatic for him there IMO). BB has 10,000 behind his 600 BB. I had KQ.

What do you do? Results to follow.

Push.
Get heads up with the button. If you're lucky, he raised with K-J or K-10 or something of that nature.

I'm assuming you pushed and got either sucked out on or called by AK, AQ.

I push here. In order to get back into the tournament, you're going to have to get lucky and this is a good spot.

The button is going to call, but he could have anything. To me, here's the interesting part. Since there are two players to act, the first can raise to isolate against you. There are many hands he would do this with that you're not dominated on. If he has AK or AQ, it just wasn't your tournament. If he raises, or if he calls, and the button raises, then you might end up heads up and only have to get by one player to survive. Me personally, I'd rather have 2 callers in that situation, so I can triple up and actually have a chance to get back in it.

You thank Phil Hellmuth for giving you such wonderful cards, b/c it would be correct to push with a lot worse cards here

Usually I push. Against a very (and I mean very) weak-tight big stack, I might stop-n-go. Mistake on my part?

He would be getting at least 4:1 on the flop to call your stop and go - I don't think he lays down anything on the flop with those odds

Oh, Jesus. I need to learn to read. I put the Hero at 6,100 chips. Yes, a sit n' go would be VERY dumb here. Definite push pre-flop. Sorry.

I thought for a few moments, pushed, he called with 108s, like he should. He made two pair. No big deal on his call, which was mandatory for 1300 more. Just wanted to vent a little and confirm my thoughts were correct.

He's pretty much raising with any 2. His range of hands in this spot is enormous, in my opinion. It would have been criminal to not push all in with KQ.
