I love this bet and the trash talking going on at pocket5s. How astute are the posters over there? Is their reputation as strong as twoplustwo?

Their posters are an interesting mix of people. They have some of the best internet players in the world posting on their site, but they also have the fanboys who just found the site because of the rankings.

obviously if they do another season, it's because the ratings were good enough.... it's not like the ESPN execs are going to sit down and say "you know guys, screw the money this time... i think we really owe it to our 10 fans to tell the rest of the story"

though, if there ever is a meeting between broadcasting execs where something like that goes down, i hope they tape it... that's something that i would pay to see.

I remember hearing from a friend about this bet being discussed, and my first reaction was thinking why would anyone, however good, honestly give 2-1 on a bet like that. If even only the person taking the bet makes it a point to play as much as possible, and is a good player, then you're already on shaky ground. If several good players were to make it a point to try and win the month, now you're really "challenged".

How many players do you expect to try and put in as much time as you to win the month?

Doesn't matter, at stars, they take only the top 20 finishes.

Ok, I'm vaguely familiar with the Stars point system since I know I've read info about it before, and since when I play tournies, they're usually on Stars. Obviously, if you expect to win the bet, then you expect your 20 points finishes to be better than anyone else's. I would still expect the key to this would be to play more than anyone else, or at least more than any other very good players. Unless you can just go win a few tournies anytime you want to.

Or unless you feel that you play in such a way that maximizes the points in your good finishes in a way that almost all other players who you expect could threaten you don't.

any chance you'd want to share your PS name? of course when you reach the top of the board, we'll know -- as a PS regular, i'd like to sit quietly on the rail sometime...

good luck 2u

Hey Peter: I told Irie that I wanted to sell my seat because I don't feel that I am matched with most of the participants...Irie said that Gig was "next" on the list & that Gig wants it; so, when I get paid - He's got it...Cleinen will "inherit" Gig in the Blind-Draw-Calcutta; I will be replaced by Gig in the Live-Auction-Calcutta and I will be the first bidder @ $100....Gig told me (a long time ago) that he was going to bid $1,000 for himself, so I'm sure I won't "own" him for long. /images/graemlins/frown.gif...Having Gigabet as a participant is a big-positive for the *STTF-HUC*

I'm still going to attend because I can have just as much fun as a "watcher" as a player and Craig will need help with organizational details and I'll be there in case of a "no show" /images/graemlins/smile.gif /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hey Gig,
Are you a P5er? If so, and you do win the leaderboard, you get to take down the extra $5K that Nip is offering to the winner...

Good luck man.

At least I was smart enough to buyin at the $200 level /images/graemlins/smile.gif

my response for why gigabet is not ranked on Pocketfives and the outlook for August's bet

Gigabet is not ranked because he is a 1 and 2 table tournament specialist. Maybe he is holding back, maybe this is what August is all about, for him to just enter the online Multi Table Tourney arena and take the throne.

Here is the bad news.

The reality is that I have been waiting for an oppurtunity to demonstrate my skills in the spotlight to the world. The reality is that I am the best online MTT player in the WORLD right now.

I suspect, that there are some more players out there who are gearing up to give August a run, and it would not surprise me if 5 or more other players ended the month higher then gigabet.

Oh, and as for me, you know where I'll be at the end of August, at the top, right where I have been all along.

Man all top players are so connected. Sheets backs the crew- Fishman, Dutch Boyd, Gank. Then somehow Gigabet lives in Fishman's house. Then Fishman is connected to Doyle through fishtank and doyle's room. Oh and lets not forget Sheets and JohnnyBax are neighbours.

I'd be interested in betting 3k straight up on gig to win, if you are interested, Gank. I know 3k is small potatoes to you, but it's yer call. PM or respond in this thread; Gig will vouch for me, and I assume you need no such vouching.
