ever wondered if you live near a sex offender? check this site out.

www.nsopr.gov (http://www.nsopr.gov/)

I ran a search and did not find this posted in OOT before, if it has been sorry.

I found 4 offenders in in my zip code The have full names and pictures of each. One was even 19, another had been convicted on 3 rape charges... how is some one like that out of jail.

This site does not cover every state.

Interesting. I now live in Georgia, which isn't an option. However, I found 2 people that I knew when I was a kid. They went to the same school as me.

When living in the far east as a kid, the director of the local youth sports league disappeared over x-mas vacation. Went to the states and never returned. He resurfaced a few months later claiming he was in a serious skiing accident and had been in a coma, intensive care, ruptured vertebrae, the whole deal. One parent became suspicious, hired a PI, and discovered that he had been picked up on Child Sexual Abuse charges upon entering through customs.

Looking back, it was completely obvious that this guy liked preadolescent boys way too much, I mean the guy would hang out with me and my 11 year old friends on weekends and had no apparent life of his own. But no one ever questioned it because he was a particularly close friend of the head of the Mormon church in the area. For this exact reason, my parents, not knowing this guy at all, allowed me and 3 of my friends to go camping alone with this guy in the middle of nowhere for 3 days when I was 11.

Anyway, I checked and this guy is on the list, living in a Salt Lake suburb, having been convicted of 2 additional counts of Sodomy on a Child in 1997. Honestly gave me chills to see that face and realize how easily it could have been me.

and this brings up another point, would you tell any of your other neighbors about these sex offenders?

There were like a hundred in my zip, but several had a bunch of aliases so it wasn't actually that many. I only found two of them that are pretty close to me. One was a statutory rape guy so meh. The other was kiddie porn. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

When I was looking through KY, they seem to have a ten year option that I didnt notice elsewhere. Basically you have to register for ten years instead of lifetime. I guess that should be fair for stat. rape and/or certain date rape senarios. While I don't advocate either, bunching these together with child molesters isn't too fair.

I know in California that you are requireed to go door to door and tell your neighbors that you are a registered sex offender. Judging from the large amount registered in my area though it looks like people do not necessarily obey this.

When I went to high school some guy moved into a local suburb. It turns out he had a rape conviction on his record and had to go door to door telling everyone that he was a convicted sex offender. People flipped out and tried to get him removed from the neighborhood. I felt really bad for his daughter because she was the initial reason he had moved to get her into a better school district. Kind of a weird situation altogether.

You shouldn't feel bad for a rapist. Feel bad for the victims that he isn't still in jail.

I happen to be a sex offender and don't appreciate this thread at all. I was convicted of child molesting in '88. Doesn't mean I did it, though and the people in your neighborhoods aren't necessarily guilty either.

I never said anyone was guilty, a court did. Also I dont feel any differently than I did before I found this out. However you have to expect people to be somewhat uneasy about living next door to a convicted sex offender. And people should be made aware of these people. As I said Im not gonna go telling all the neighbors and I dont plan on moving because of this so i dont know why you are offended.

I used to work in a staffing office and we had to check this on everyone who applied. We only ever found one guy, and he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. We called the cops on him and AFAIK, they went and arrested his ass.

I was kidding. I wasn't convicted of child molesting. Just wanted to see the responses. I'm surpised people didn't go nuts on me.

In another thread, you complained that the 2+2 moderators are busting the posts yopu put up under another handle. Is this, you think, because of the poker content of your posts or for some other reason you might wanna speculate upon?

"The world just doesn't like me" is a childish excuse -- and a paedophile's excuse.

If thats how many they have caught it has to get you wondering how many they havent and also how many people could potentially become offenders.

I think a lot of us think sex offenders are these dirty weirdos when in fact they are ordinary people and a lot closer to us than we think.

We have a register in the UK but I dont think the public are allowed to see it, its more for the polie to keep tabs on them.

Much of this is due to outrage spawned in the States when these guys are turned loose from overcrowded prisons, then commit the same crimes. A girl was murdered after being sexually assualted in California by one of these subhumans, so here it's named after her Megan's Law, i.e. that the public be allowed to keep tabs on these people who rightfully should still be in PMITA prison.

well, here's the full story is anyone interested...

Teacher Formally Charged with Providing Pornography to Student

A teacher at Bear Creek High School charged with giving sexually explicit materials to a student heard the charges against her in a Stockton courtroom on Wednesday.

Kim Alexander, 39, who is also know as Janet Kim Alexander-Low, was arrested Friday after allegations surfaced that she had provided pornographic materials to a 15-year-old male student at Bear Creek High.

Today Alexander appeared before a judge with her attorney and her husband at her side. It quickly became clear that she will face more serious charges than initially thought.

In addition to the expected charges of annoying a child under 18 and furnishing harmful matter for the purposes of seduction, Alexander was also charged with attempted lewd act with a child, and soliciting lewd acts. Alexander did not enter a plea.

Prosecutors say they are continuing to investigate the case, paying particular attention to Alexander's computer files and e-mails. Police say there could be other victims.

Alexander has been suspended from her teaching position. Her attorney said she's upset, but dealing with the events as well as can be expected. "It's a situation fraught with anxiety for anyone in this position, but I think because of the support of her family, she's coping quite well," said Al Ellis.

Alexander is not in custody. She returns to court next week for further arraignment.

The same has happened over here and parents of one of the kids killed tried to get a megans (sarahs) law but it never got very far as the government are too scared of vigilantism and I guess that it would be impossible to rehabilitate offenders back in the community as they wouold be constantly be being hounded out.
