I would guess that more than 50% of the time that a hand is played out that way you're up against a set. You raised pre-flop showing strength. You bet the flop continuing to show strength and got two callers with a rainbow board. I'm always worried with two callers like that and would try and keep the pot small if possible.

Im in this tourney guys. Im staying at my cousins house and they've gotten into poker somewhat over the past month since im staying with them for the summer. After they'd seen me watch this tourney a few times they finally convinced me to play in this and we'd split the buyin 3 ways or try to win a seat in a qualifier.

I tried to tell them we have a very unlikely chance of doing good but they said oh well we can just try for fun.

So we deposit $66 onto PP since my account was at 0 (i play on euro for rakeback) and we ended up winning a seat in a satellite. They did alot of cheering real happy about this, and i tried to keep drumming into their head not to have too high expectations since there are people who play this tourney every night of the week and don't make the final table.

They tell me im being pessemistic but im just trying to keep them from being too disappointed for when we go out. So far though we've gotten pocket aces 3 times and are up to 2000 in chips and they're all happy lol. Saying "focus focus".. i think they're just trying to have fun with it though joking about what it would be like if we "won". Either way we're only in for $20 so its all in good fun. Doing good right now though.

T1120 at the 1st break. Won a few small hands. Lost a few small hands. Had a royal flush but with 4 hearts on the board didn't get paid off. Only questionable hand:

I limp with KQo in EP with blinds 10/20. MP raises to 80. LP calls. I'm getting over 3 to 1 odds to call but am almost positive I'm behind and dominated. So, I fold.

Of course, the flop is QQx and I would have won a nice pot against KK. Oh well. Hindsight is 20/20.

Made a questionable push vs a raise with 55. Villain turned over QQ and I was out.

EDIT: 55 was the best hand I'd gotten since the start and my stack was at about 500. Villain raised to 200 (blinds were 25/50) and I pushed it in.

Not a good push, IMO. He's pot committed and you're likely to be a coin flip at best. You still had enough chips to play. Patience.

Yeah, I blew it... I'm very disappointed with myself on that hand. I was getting increasingly frustrated with the lack of any decent holdings and was pretty much hoping that villain had two overcards.

EDIT: On the plus side, I did qualify so I'm only down 10 on that and I'm still learning. So here's to hoping I do better the next time I play one of these, though I'm sure it won't be in a long while.

Down to about t1200. I get AJ in about UTG+2, and raise to 140 (25/50). Guy behind me min raises to 230. I figure he's got Aces or Kings, but decide to see the flop. Axx on the flop, I check, and he makes a relatively weak bet of 175. I just knew I was ahead here, but instead of raising, thought I'd let him bet at me one more time on the turn. Turn is a K. Uh-oh. I check, and he goes all-in, and I know he's got KK, but I'm down to my last 780 chips and call anyway, telling myself (bad zinzan), "well, maybe he has QQ."

I am stoopid. I read him for Kings. He had Kings.
