I'd raise him, 35+35+35+25+40 in the pot? So that's 170. Hmm bump it to 150, see how serious he is about his hand.

Now it's read dependent.. has he done anything donkish before, does he seem like a reasonable player, or does he overplay Ax? Probably a fold though.

If the utg villian is a bit of a donk I'm not a fan of raising on the flop because the villian is likely to think any wired pair is the best hand and play it really hard back at you (and he raised PF making it likely he has a pair).

I think folding here against that type of player is perfectly acceptable, but I would favour calling and seeing a cheap turn.

On the other hand if the villian is someone who will fold 77's and down to a raise then I might try to define my hand here but I really hate raising and then being faced with a tough decision.

The problem with calling, as I see it, is that you have no idea still where you stand in the hand on the turn, and it can only make your hand worse.

i assume you mean folding to the reraise, not the initial bet?

i thought about calling, but i was worried that i would be in a tough spot if the turn blanked and he bet again. but then he pushed and i said to myself, "oh, great, still don't know if he has AK."

in retrospect, i like a call and plan on calling down if the bets are small, and making a small value bet if he checks the river.

how confident are you that he doesn't push AK/AQ?

This feels like AK or a pair lower then yours.

smaller pair is pretty unlikely imo, as he opened utg.

I like calling this flop bet. If you're going to raise, I like the mini-raise. It let's you know what his likely holding is cheaply.

my worry is that AK/AQ also pushes. i'm not sure how much info i really gain by any of his actions.

Sure, it's a worry. If they push, you get out cheaper than raising to 150, 175, whatever. If they just call, you can be relatively sure of their holding. Very flew players have the discipline to flat call your flop mini-raise with AA. Which is what they should do.

This feels like a trapping overpair all the way and, given you raised the flop, is an easy fold when he pushes.

no I meant the initail bet. let me know if you want a further explanation of my reasons for favoring this over raising.
